I went there not to fish but to check out the house that was falling into the ocean. This was a major vantage point. I was alone but treated like family. I sat on the pier and watched the balcony of that house drop into the ocean! I sat alone on a bench and watched the other people fish. It was relaxing and I enjoyed being out over the water without pay to be on the water. Note: Rodanthe Pier is a very reasonable fishing pier. They offer rental poles and sell bait. Best of all you do not need a NC fishing license to fish off their pier. I was impressed with their customer service and advice on what else was around there. I spent a couple hrs there and never was I pressured to rent fishing equipment or buy bait or anything else. I was welcome to just sit on their pier and live vicariously off others...
   Read moreSave your time and money go to another pier. Scott once of owners has no business in dealing with public. Hooked a big ray went into his lines ,which I know is pain in butt. Tried to stop it locked drag down and pulled till line snapped. He was running his mouth and using cuss words. Fished the 3 times had a 30 min conversion with the guy working the counter with my pier wagon right beside me not once did I see a sign or was I told they do not allow braid. If I would have known or was told politely I would have respected there rules and changed rods.    Read moreThe attendant was either just lazy or the owners don't support their customers.It's not my job to figure it out.So,I had a fishing cart with beach wheels and I like to surf fish during the day and pier fish in the evenings.The attendant said she couldn't open the walk through gate.So,I would have to unload everything and carry it through and reload everything once on the other side.I opted to leave and go to another pier that was more accommodating.It's poor customer service that causes attendance to go down and then I drove to the state run pier and it was full of people fishing and no hassle getting...
