HWY 12 Amusements — Local services in Hatteras Island

We (4 kids under 8 and three adults) visited this arcade during a week along vacation to the outer banks. We only checked out the arcade area but they also offered bowling, laser tag, Minigolf, and an outdoor climbing wall. We should have brought cash but instead had to use the ATM to purchase one of the game cards. You get one card loaded with a number of credits that you can swipe at the various games. We purchased the $50 card which came with some bonus credits and was definitely a good deal for a group our size. We spent around an hour playing the various games and would just borrow the card as needed from each other. The only hiccup is that one of the motorcycle games kept taking our credits and the game would not start. I mentioned it to the front desk employee and I thought she said the manager would take care of it. I didn’t follow up until the end and discovered it hadn’t been taken care of but at that point it wasn’t worth it. There were a decent variety of games - the two highlights were “large screen “ versions of pac-man and space invaders. Playing these classic games on a giant screen was awesome and definitely the highlight of the visit. They also had skeeball and air hockey. My entire family went here for an evening of laser tag and games. Facility was clean and maintained. Laser tag was fun but not as organized as say a Gatlinburg, TN facility. The arcade was so-so. The games were not plentiful and the Whack N Win game completely ripped off my 10 year old son. He had worked on hitting the jackpot of 500 several times...the jackpot got up to 507...he hit it and the machine lit up like a night sky on the 4th of July...he was so pumped to have finally gotten the jackpot. He was counting his tickets in his head and when we got to the counter, his card was scanned and they claimed he did not win the jackpot because the card didn't show it. I tried to argue the point but all I got was shoulder shrugs and "I don't knows". Please be cautious when dealing with these games as I'm sure the happiness of your children come first. Staff was not helpful in fixing the issue and did not offer any compensation to the visibly heartbroken 10 year old. I've posted pics of the machine in...

Giant claw machine was a hit with my kids....until we found out it wasn't working. Then the tears started. Very high priced arcade....& lots of machines down.

Edited: I have changed my rating from 2 stars to 5. My kids had a blast on the machines that did work. My 4yr old daughter stood patiently waiting for the giant claw machine to be repaired for 30 min. She was determined to win a giant blue penguin. The repair lady offered her a free turtle so she could go play other games since it was taking so long to repair. My daughter told her, "no thank you. I want a blue penguin. I'll wait. " After a few minutes more, she came back out of the machine and gave my daughter a blue penguin. The sheer joy on her face was priceless! Also, due to the waiting, the manager rounded up all of our tickets on our card, giving my children lots of extras. All 3 if them left with the exact prizes they wanted & were thrilled.
