Palazzolo Express — Restaurant in Hatteras Island

I have to say, I almost NEVER leave reviews; I just don’t care to. However, we were SHOCKED at how good this pizza is.

Coming from the Northeast (the pizza capital of the US), I’m pretty picky about what I consider “great” pizza and usually don’t expect much when I travel, but Palazzolo was recommended by a Salvo local and I’m glad we listened to her.

The sauce was fantastic (not too acidic), the pizza had a nice, thin, New Haven style crust and the ingredients were obviously super fresh. The dough isn’t salted beyond recognition, so its almost-sweetness compliments the sauce and cheese very well.

My child won’t eat traditional pizza, and when I asked if they could make a fried dough with powdered sugar, the owner one upped me and made some zeppoles for us (they were just as good as what we grew up on).

Totally unexpected favorite.... Once you get your seafood fix (or while) and are ready for some of the best comfort food....this little gem will knock your socks off. We spent one and a half weeks around the corner and wished we tried much sooner. The "boss" and I have different tastes and ordered the calzones. Since we were visiting in off season, we had to wait until the were open to get our second fix..... When we hit OBX again...will be on the short...

EAT HERE! They're gonna close up early, get there early, order a pizza or the cheese bread because their dough is fantastic! The veggies are all fresh and chopped that morning or as needed. The sauce is made in house, the dough is theirs, even the mushrooms are fresh and tasty. They've got one picnic table and limited parking so plan ahead. Do not skip this place or Hoy's just because it's take out, this is some of the...
