I recently visited the Concord Point Lighthouse and waterfront area in Havre de Grace, Maryland, and I must say, it was a delightful experience.
Historic Charm and Preservation: The Friends of Concord Point Lighthouse have done an exceptional job preserving this historic landmark. The lighthouse, built in 1827, stands as a proud symbol of Havre de Grace. It’s fascinating to see a structure with such a rich history, and the volunteers are incredibly knowledgeable, offering educational tours that are both informative and engaging. The Keeper’s House, also restored and open to the public, adds to the immersive historical experience.
Scenic Beauty: The location is absolutely beautiful. Situated at the point where the Susquehanna River meets the Chesapeake Bay, the views are simply spectacular. The waterfront promenade is a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll, offering panoramic vistas that are particularly stunning at sunset.
Community and Events: The area is more than just a historical site; it’s a vibrant community space. The lighthouse grounds are a popular venue for weddings and special events, adding a touch of historic elegance to any occasion. The sense of community and dedication from the Friends of Concord Point Lighthouse is evident in every detail, from the well-maintained grounds to the engaging tours.
Visitor Experience: Open to the public on weekends from April to October, the lighthouse and Keeper’s House provide a wonderful outing for families, history buffs, and anyone looking to enjoy a piece of Maryland’s maritime heritage. The volunteers’ passion and knowledge make the visit worthwhile, ensuring that each visitor leaves with a deeper appreciation of the area’s history.
In summary, the Friends-Concord Point Lighthouse and waterfront area is a must-visit. Whether you’re there for the history, the views, or the community events, you’re sure to have a memorable experience. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Havre de...
Read moreNice Bayside park with great security, partly shaded paved walking paths with big grass areas for having a picnic, throw a ball around, flying kites, remote control drones, helicopters etc. Alot of weddings are performed there, great for walking the dogs, access to bay water but no swimming area. We have been walking our Pomeranian dog, Foxy, there for awhile and everyone we have met there have been nice and friendly. Our Pom does wade out into the water as long as it isn't high tide. The other thing that kids will enjoy 😏😁 is there is a lot of history connected to this site. The lighthouse is open on the weekends during the summer, there are a few monuments, cannon and educational plaques around the park and across the street from the park is the maritime museum. Heck, there is even an "honor system" book exchange box where you can pick up a book to read that someone else is done with. The "honor system" works like this. When you are done reading a book, you put it in the box and can p/u a book in the box to take with you and/or leave some change in the box for suppliers of the books to have. We have read a few good books from there and left a few James Patterson's books there as well. This box is 100% honor system. Visit with your family and have FUN !!! SEE YOU THERE !! I usually have my black "chauffeur hat" on, my wife is gorgeous and we walk Foxy, our Pomeranian with us. Say hello if you see us there and chat for a few minutes if you want to. We don't bite and neither does Foxy. He may lick your kids to death with kisses but won't bite you unless you are trying to harm his Mommy. Then he will chew your ankles off 🐕🐈😸. SEE...
