The Halekiʻi-Pihana Heiau State Monument is often overlooked despite its deserving love and attention. Tucked away in a residential neighborhood, it remains hidden behind a closed gate. Upon approaching the gate, a sign informs visitors that the heiau is accessible only on foot, restricting vehicular access. To reach the heiau, one must park on a nearby neighborhood street and embark on a brief hike along a paved road. The condition of the road leading to the heiau and parking lot at the top leaves much to be desired, likely contributing to the State's decision to prohibit vehicles beyond the gate. Nevertheless, my visit to the heiau was a delightful experience. I appreciated the presence of interpretive signs that provided valuable insights, and the breathtaking vista of East and West Maui added to the allure.
