Hays Public Library — Attraction in Hays

They literally knock themselves out here in an attempt to serve you.

It's crazy- insane 🤯 the lengths they will actually go to get you a book...

For example If you need a book, and can't make it to the Library they will deliver it to you. If you can't return a book to the library they will come to your residence and pick it up.

If the library doesn't have a particular book you want they will order it via "interlibrary loan", in some cases searching libraries across the entire state. If that doesn't work they will even search other libraries in other states for that book.

If you need to send a fax they will send it for you. If you need access to a computer they will give you access to one.

If you need a copy or print out of some document they will print it out for you.

I haven't even gotten to the Bookmobile, or the numerous other activities they sponsor throughout the year. This ain't even the half of it...

No other library I've ever experienced in my life can match this one...and I've been to some of the largest and most acclaimed libraries in the country.

I've seen other reviews say that the wifi here is fast. Well not the day I came. I reserved a meeting room because I needed to do an important video call. I connected to the "guest" wifi as instructed and checked the internet speed. It was literally the slowest speed I have ever come across. I asked the person at the front desk if something could be done. They called someone who couldn't or wouldn't help. I had to use my mobile hotspot, which wasn't great either but vastly better. Moved into Hays on Oct. 1st 2020 and got to see their old set up that month. So comparing to the old setup of the ground floor to the new set up: more open space, quiet rooms for studying, a section dedicated to their computers and a very good view of main street.

Only problem is the walls in the back by the computers need some artworks or photos. It would make it feel less stale for me and i would actually work back there than up front by the windows on my laptop. Its more quiet back there...
