Went to the unlimited sushi night and had a pretty bad experience. If you're just looking for a food recommendation, it was average for Americanized sushi, sub-par for authentic sushi. Presentation is fine.
As for the experience itself...? To preface, we were a group of 6 but we said that we were willing to split up. They decided to keep us together and had us wait. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but it took over TWO HOURS to seat us. It took 20 minutes for the waitress to take our order and another hour to get a small portion of our food (~15%). At this point, we had seen the waitress maybe three times: to ask for drinks, to deliver drinks and order food, and to get the food. We asked if we could order the next round of sushi, seeing as it was supposed to be unlimited, and she went to ask someone. After another thirty minutes she said we couldn't order more because they were closing soon. To put that in perspective, we arrived at 5:45, were told it would be an hour wait, then didn't eat until after 8:15. One of the people in my group didn't receive food until almost 9, then was told that half of his food couldn't be made because they were short on ingredients and weren't able to make any rolls that he was interested in. The only reason my rating isn't lower is because they comped his meal and gave him a gift card to convince him to come back. It was incredibly...
Read moreI have lived in Portland Oregon, Austin Texas, Milwaukee Wisconsin, and many other states. I have had great sushi in all these locations. Nothing has ever come close to this place. Their spring rolls were like heaven( usually spring rolls suck as most places lol). We tried two rolls, the dragon rolls( amazing, except had raw tuna and I’m pregnant so I’m leery of raw meat), and the Spider-Man. The Spider-Man was so incredibly good, and so creatively made. The restaurant was very clean and very open and inviting. I unfortunately( or fortunately lol), live 30 min away, so my pregnancy cravings are harder to satisfy. But I am going to try every roll on their menu that is all cooked meat in the future. I think I will go to sleep dreaming about their spring rolls. But seriously, I am a sushi fanatic, and I am blown away that the best sushi I have had is in rural kansas. 🙌. Farewell sake2me, Until Monday, when I make my next...
Read moreWas suggested to me to try while in Hays on business. I was the only one in the restaurant for a while. Good beer selection and friendly service. I had to rate it a two because the sushi was disappointing at best. I ordered my fav spicy tuna roll and the only other roll that didn't seem heavy on tempora or frozen seafood like crab or shrimp. The spicy tuna had a great deal of filler in it, can't recall if it was cucumber or celery but was too much. The rainbow roll was colorful but the salmon was not cut properly and I had a large piece of fat/skin. It also did tasted "fishier" than I'm accustomed to w sushi. I can see how this place appeals to people that may not be familiar with sushi or may be afraid to try something traditional. I hope people realize this sushi is not standard sushi and expectations...
