Healdsburg Veterans Memorial Beach — Attraction in Healdsburg

If you read the reviews and look at the photos you would think that this is a very nice, clean beach. Unfortunately that was not the reality I encountered last week. I had a rented a paddleboard to paddle from this beach. The beach between the life guard stand and the bridge was insanely steep -- I could barely get myself to the water without slipping. And when I got to the waters edge, the water I saw was completely opaque and really disgusting looking. Hoping things would improve I did paddle to the swimming area buoy line but then aborted when the water didn't seem any cleaner. It was seriously gross and made my local river, the Potomac, look sparkling clean by comparison. I was not the only one thinking this because there was hardly anyone there (they must all know about how gross this body of water is). I only gave this place a 1 star review because I had to in order to tell you the real truth about Healdsburg Veterans Memorial Beach. My Family & I went to Healdsburg Veterans Memorial Beach to have some fun away from home. We live in Martinez CA. The drive was over 2hrs but that’s ok with us if its a good place for the family to have fun. When we arrived we walked along the railroad tracks to go to a remote beach. My Wife said she thinks a 3rd World Country would be nicer. It was a MASIVE HOMELESS CAMP all around the whole beach. Lazy Lifeguards. They spend too much time on the speaker. 2 sat up there with unhappy attitudes and did not budge! The experience was NOT pleasant. The roped off area is waaay to narrow causing dirty shallow water which we could not get away from. Lots of big clean river water a few feet away. Very stupid concept that needs reworking. I was travelling thru with a 3 year old who was wearing a Coast Guard approved life jacket and who also swims. We tried to get to clean water but were called back.
