I have 2 Havanese females, 9 pounds each. My husband and I took them to the Chandon Dog Park to play in the small dog enclosed area, for dogs less than 25 pounds.
It was nice we were the only ones in that section, thats the good news. It did not take me long to find out why we were the only ones in this section. The bad news: It appeared the grass had not been cut in weeks. The weeds we're taller than my dogs. There were hidden mud patches and deep holes scattered amongst the grass that was not noticeable from afar. There were no trees in this section, so on this sunny hot day, there was no shade for my dogs. When we left my dogs were covered in mud!
Contrast this to the big dog area fo dogs greater than 25 pounds. This was more of a park, lots of trees, grass was cut, in addition, they had several large pieces of agility equipment for dogs.
For small dogs, I would not recommend. I cannot give this dog park even 1 star. But, I had to give it one star or else this review would not post. Do not...
Read moreIt's a nice dog park, hidden away behind townhomes and near World Gate shopping center in Herndon. It's nice sized park, similar to the Reston dog park. The difference is there are trees inside the park as well as ramp for dogs to climb up and down with, which is a welcome addition compared to other parks. There are also plenty of benches throughout the park for people to set on which other dog parks seem to lack. I also love that's it very close to my home! As for the negatives: the ground is dirt vs gravel like at Restons dog park so when it rains there are muddy spots in various areas and the other big negative is that sometimes there is no one at the dog park. It has people in the late afternoon early evening, unlike at Reston dog park which has people and their dogs at all times. All in all its a great place for your pups and I definitely...
Read moreWhat a wonderful and smart dog park! Obviously they took input from numerous dog-lovers and nerds. There's your usual dedicated small-dog area and general run with playthings and water, but also some isolation/exposure runs to test how your dog does off-leash in proximity to others. Owners we met were very observant and friendly/approachable and it seems like they've helped build a great place for dogs to be dogs while keeping everyone safe. One of the best implementations of public and ethical pet-ownership I've ever seen, and I highly recommend it for those whose furry friend needs to stretch their legs and play safely or needs a bit of more-cautious exercise and exposure. Great place to interact and learn with owners and their dogs even if you don't currently have your own pet to...
