Grill Kabob — Restaurant in Herndon

Updated 4/21: I haven't eaten here in a long time. I ordered my usual, kubeeda and chicken combo. I just love the rice and the chicken is always cooked to perfection... Juicy, not dried. The Kubeeda is pretty good, but I like one Grill Kabob's at Dulles Shopping Mall better. This one is missing the cilantro and the texture is similar to the gyro meat instead of ground beef like texture. The employees are always appreciative when I tipped. Please don't forget to tip, especially with Covid has significantly impacting so many smaller businesses.

My favorite kabob restaurant. The employees there are reserved and responsive and attentive. There is a tip jar by the register, and they always thank me no matter how much I put in the tip jar. Once after I ordered carryout, he suggested that I can order ahead so that I wouldn't have to wait for the food. He gave me their business card with their menu printed on the other side... So convenient. Today I tried ordering ahead and indeed it is so easy. The food was ready when I got there. I wanted double chicken which was not on the menu, and he was able to accommodate me. Double chicken is $16.49. I love their hot sauce and their white sauce has the perfect consistency. Their food is consistently delicious. Today I noticed their curry chicken dish on the menu. I was curious and asked for f I could see how the curry chicken looks. He gave me a sample and the curry check clean is delicious. I love that it is little spicy, not every bite. I prefect dark meat, and the curry chicken is made with dark meat, perfect for me. If you like a curry, I highly recommend it. I had their felafal and gyros. Been in the mood and since I had the best Gyro ever last week at Grill Kabob Express in Manassas, I thought I’d go back to the OG in Herndon. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as good as I’d remembered. The Gyro I got yesterday was not that great. I’m still not sure if the two are affiliated but the Gyro here in Herndon was $11.99 and the one in Manassas was $9.99. Here in Herndon my bread was prepared fresh and the meat was pulled from a chaffing dish in a steam well where it must have been sitting for hours because it was basically steamed. I’m used to the meat being freshly sliced right from the spit on to the sandwich. You have the nice char and some bits are crunchy because of the heat, while still flavorful and juicy. The steamed meat I got yesterday was bloated and almost mushy texture. The flavor was diluted and it was put on a bed of lettuce. There was like one piece of onion and zero tomato. I asked for the sauce on the side and I was given a squeeze bottle from the fridge that was so dirty and clogged, I had to clean it myself with napkins before any sauce would come out. The table I sat at was equally as dirty and I had to clean it myself which I don’t mind, however the place was empty. None of the tables appear to have been cleaned. I have visited this location multiple times....always liked it. However, as of late, things have changed. The same Cashier's been there for at least 2 o 3 years. He used to be polite and service was ok. In the last year or so things have changed. The cashier has become unpleasant, and border line rude.

Today I visited this location for the last time. I'm a paying customer and as such, I feel that I'm entitled to some basic customer service; such a simple hello, but I did not even get that. The cashier's attitude has only worsen. To the extend that I feel very unconvertible speaking to him. He's demeanor borders into an East LA (I've been there) gang member appearance. Now, even with his hat turned back and tilt it up like the East LA characters I've seen.

The food has always been my favorite, but today it certainly wasn't. The rise was horrible and the chicken did not taste as usual. (first time though)

Over all, the service has really worsen due mainly to the cashier I speak of. The food has always been the way I liked it except for today!

Suggestion:

The owners should have a serious conversation with that young man. He's attitude is horrible, and his demeanor is unbecoming of what the establishment has been what it can be again!
