By far the worse Indian restaurant to have been in decades. I have lived in DC metro since 1972 and went to this place tonight with a friend who has visited the restaurant before and recommended it. The decor is mediocre at best but the goat curry was the worse piece of meats I have ever had in my life! See my photo of the leftover fast and skin. Hardly any meat for $16. I am South Asian decent who cooks many desi dishes all the time including goat curry. This was just plain bad. The waiter gave us water bottles without asking and charged which I asked him to reverse. Why not provide tap pitcher ice water we are not in Europe or India. The plain naan I ordered never came out until I had to ask after dish served. The main dish came with our appetizer when we asked them after appetizer. The waiter was very very inexperienced and zero clue on American dining. None of the dishes came with serving spoons and plate was not given during appetizer. This is a minor league amateur village restaurant at best. I’ve had better meals at refukar kebab place. Never again, patrons in DC area have so many options especially in northern Virginia.

Kalpasi appears to be good only for the Veg/non veg entree, as for multiple occurrences never had issue . But the recent take out experience from the restaurant had been terrible. Ordered a ‘Mutton Biryani’ and ‘Chicken 65’ . The biryani rice was clearly overcooked with excess water. It was sticky, mushy and had oil as well. The chicken 65 was just deeply fried chicken which appeared to be burnt. (Check attached images) . There was no garnishing of cilantro , curry leaves etc which is not how Chicken 65 should look. Both the dishes appeared to have been cooked in hurry . When contacted the restaurant, the manager says that is their specialty when mentioned the rice is like that and looks sticky. Would not order again any biryani or any fried food from this restaurant again.

WOW!!!! Do yourself a favor and eat here now! The host welcomed us in and encouraged us to dry the Dolsa, which is an Indian pancake/crepe. We trusted his advice and also got the Chicken Tikka Masala. When they brought out the Dolsa, it was massive and came with three sauces and a curried potato. The flavors were magnificent and truly blew our minds. Definitely enough for 2+ people to share. We also shared one Tikka Masala with rice and we had plenty of food. The Masala was the best we have EVER had!!! We truly felt like we were at the best restaurant in India. We decided we are going to come back to the area specifically for this restaurant. And get this - each dish was around $10-11!! We are used to $25+ for an Indian dinner each. Again, WOW!!! EAT HERE!!

Should be a takeout restaurant. Food is good but service and ambience can not get any worse. Staff are not rude but could not care less for a customer. We went it where there were only 3 tables with guests for lunch. The staff did not acknowledge us even coming but when they finally did; the staff pointed her finger towards an empty table suggesting us to take a seat. Then the server comes with menus, left it in front of us and just left. While placing the order, I asked the server of the chicken thali that’s shown in their website and was told they never had a thali. I open the menu and they have 3-4 thali listed. I did not bother pointing it out. We ordered 2 appetizers and 4 mains. 1 appetizer arrives follow momentarily by all mains and then in the middle of our meal is when the 2nd appetizer arrives. All this food is placed on the table and we thanked the server….went unrecognized every single time. The food was good and we wanted to order more but failed to get the attention of any of the wait staff who were busy talking to each other and then disappeared into the kitchen. Went to the counter and waited for a server to arrive and ordered food. Forgot to mention that when we arrived, we were given 4 bottles of water instead of any glasses. We were never offered water or asked if we wanted water. When the bill arrived, we were charged for 4 bottles of water!! Which restaurant does this???? We wanted to wash our hands and could only locate the women’s restroom. Staff looked at us but did not say anything. When asked for the men’s room, they said that they had plumbing issues with water backing up so we were ok to use the women’s room. No signs on the restroom suggesting the plumbing issue or men ok to use it. The restaurant itself was dark and dingy with low lighting, wet floors and no piece of art of any sorts throughout. Will never go to this...

I'm not a "write a review" sort of girl. But I had an experience a few days ago that has continued to bother me. Before sharing my experience, I'll say that my family and I have patronized this establishment many times and have always been greeted warmly by the several hosts that we've encountered. The food is delicious and I've had a pleasant experience, thus far. But a few days ago, a friend asked that I meet her for dinner at this restaurant. I arrived at the restaurant, looked around a bit for my friend but couldn't locate her. A host came up to me to greet me, and I asked her if she had seen another black lady walk into the restaurant. The host said she hadn't and handed me a menu. (I'm obviously black as well). Eventually, I found my friend and the same host greeted us both. She recognized my friend, gave her a warm hug and through a smile asked me not to call my friend black because my friend was beautiful. (My friend is a light skinned, in complexion). I was perplexed by her comment but still dined with my friend at the establishment. After a wonderful dinner, and on our way out, the same host hugged my friend, again, and asked me again not to call my friend black ...that my friend was beautiful. I then asked the host to explain what it was she meant by her comment. I specifically asked her if she was trying to say that black wasn't beautiful. She continued to hug my friend and giggle but I think she ultimately realized that her statement was offensive because all of a sudden, she said she was just joking and scurried away. As I stated at the beginning of my review, I've always had a pleasant experience at this restaurant. But after this most recent experience, I am no...

Would have given negative rating but no such option is available, so going with minimum rating. Save yourself some money and self respect by avoiding this RACIST place. Manager is RACIST and servers are incompetent.

  1. Manager treats you lesser than other tamil customers (Tamil is a south Indian language). We ordered two small items. They made us wait for 50 minutes to get the food. Meanwhile on the table beside us, group of tamil customers who arrived after us ordered food, had it and left. I experienced this scenario twice at this place. Go to this place if you want to experience some Indian style of RACISM.

  2. There is a photo of Rajinikanth near the entrance of this place. I am a fan of him. While ordering food, manager was boasting about tamil language/movies etc. This is UNWANTED. We were already hungry along with a crying infant. Stop this rant you RACIST.

  3. Masala within the masala dosa was stinking. They heated stale food and served us. The chicken chettinad curry was served in a big bowl of gravy with just two small chicken pieces. When questioned about that he arrogantly replied "that's our style".

  4. When asked about the beers available, manager replied "beers are expensive here. are you sure you want to order?". This should explain their attitude.

  5. When my infant was crying, I asked for some warm water. He made me wait for 30 minutes while chatting with tamil customers in tamil language at different tables. As I understand (and can speak a bit) the language, I understood that he was talking stuff like how is our native town in tamilnadu?/how is the climate over there?/how are tamil politics...
