🌪️ DISORGANIZED🌪️ This place could be amazing, but to be clear this is not a museum, it's more representative of things from a rummage sale mixed in with articles about Brushy Bill Roberts.
When visiting a museum, the expectation is to learn something. All of the clutter really devalues the learning experience and the museum should be completely reorganized with the idea of telling the story of Billy The Kid whether complete or just the part that pertains to Hico. A significant percentage of the furnishings have nothing to do with Brushy Bill Roberts or Billy The Kid. Much of what you will see has been donated to the museum but is insignificant to Billy the Kid.
The best part of the museum is hiding in the back of the on a shelf. It is a picture of an 1873 Winchester with an octagon barrel. The rifle has a walnut stock & forearm with a metal end cap. The wood stock is not a rifle stock, instead it is a carbine stock & the octagon barrel has been cut down from 22" to 16". There's also an inscription carved in the stock with Billy the kids name along with Fort Sumner New Mexico. What makes this so interesting is, I've never heard about it. This picture should be hanging on the wall along with a story telling about the gun and where it is now.
There is also a saddle tucked into a corner that says it belonged to Brushy Bill, but you can only see half of it and it is in really bad shape due to lack of care.
The caretakers of this museum need to get online and visit Buffalo Bill center of the West and get some ideas for proper organization and how to display they're inventory. I bet if they reached out to the center of the West they might be able to partner with them and get a few hand me downs and some helpful advise.
I hope to see the museum improve in the future and look forward to...
Read moreI'm a huge old west fan, grew up surrounded by the movies, shows, books, and stories. If like me, you're a wild west enthusiast you need to check out the Billy the Kid Museum. And even if you're not really into the old west time period, this museum is still awesome to check out. No standard museum fee, all they ask, is you sign their guest book and donate at least $5.00 before you venture deeper into the museum. I donated $10.00. Brushy Bill Roberts laid claim to being Billy the Kid and the museum goes in full detail about it all. Really interesting and neat to check out for sure. The lady that worked at the museum was super nice and my wife and I enjoyed our chat with her. If you're in Hico, Texas check Billy the Kid Museum out, you'll be...
