A friend and I were traveling from Plano to San Saba for a girl's weekend get away in early Oct 2021 and knew nothing about the Weismann chocolate house. She was driving and I happened to see the shop out the window while we were waiting at the stop light....I mentioned "hey, there's a chocolate shop". She replied "just say the word and I'll make the turn!". We spent maybe an hour shopping around, tasting samples and eventually buying some tasty treats for our girl's weekend. The chocolate covered carmels with sea salt (the square ones in the cabinet) were SO delicious! I loved the fact that the carmel isn't stringy and messy, but perfectly delicious and solid. And the long box of variety truffles were also delicious. I liked it so much that I placed a Christmas order in Nov for friends and family. I ordered things I hadn't tried and not all of them were things I'd buy again. I wasn't impressed with the chocolate covered carmels in the package like I was with the square ones in the cabinet. The ones in the package just don't have the same pop of flavor...I didn't taste the sea salt at all. They should really make the package of chocolate caramels like the square ones...even if they are just smaller versions. Yes, the chocolate is pricey but all my friends and family were impressed and knew the chocolates were quality and a very special treat. The hardest part was giving them away....my husband and I ended up eating a few that were supposed the be gifts! 😉 I want to take one of their chocolate making classes with some friends. That would be...
Read moreI've been to stores in major cities around the country, been to other smaller TX tourist destinations, and this is my favorite place to buy chocolate hands down. My first visit was back in 1996 as a child, the year the shop opened. I went nearly ten years without going back until moving to the area back in the mid 2000's. Although I've since moved, I make a point of stopping when driving through Hico or ordering for special occasions a couple of times each year.
Chef Kevin and company make excellent chocolate, the service is friendly and top notch. I can't say there's anything they do poorly (or even just ok) here, but it's definitely worth stopping in if you've never visited and trying the free samples while exploring the shop. Best of all, if you can't visit, they'll ship pretty much anywhere (with an extra fee to pack cryo packs for warmer months).
If you can't make a stop in and are just ordering online, order some of the following: Original almond toffee Truffles (make sure you get a wild woman), there are more varieties than what are on the webstore though. anything else that...
Read moreThey are busy, masks are not required. The shop is small and a bit hard to navigate when lots of people are there. The line to checkout was blocking the walk way to the back room. The chocolate is good. We tried the Irish cream square. The chocolate was overpowering the Irish flavor, we ate the chocolate of and could pick up a hint of the Irish cream at that point, but was hoping for more of that flavor. The caramel clusters was good the caramel was not very chewy when you took a bit, you did not get any pull, and a little grainy, could have had more pecans. The chocolate melt aways were very tasty, very smooth and a nice flavor I recommend these. Toffee squares are great with a good crunch to them. Good ballance of nuts to chocolate to toffee. They break and do not fall apart when you bit in to them so you don't end up with half falling to the ground. I will have to try...
