Heard about this place, went to see the Billy the kid museum and this place was on the must try, so my husband and I tried to find parking, parking in front in very limited but they do offer parking at another lot, so once we found parking we were told we could sit anywhere, the waitress was very friendly, very small inside not to many tables, there was one other table with people there besides us. We ordered our food but it really took a long times, we kept looking at our watch and noticed 20 mins had already gone by still no food we finally did get my side salad which was goof and my husband got vegetable soup which he said was cold but was good. About 10 mins later our food did arrive, it was hot and very good! I ordered the Chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and I couldn't even finish what was brought out. The breading on the chicken was very good! My husband ordered chicken fried steak with onion rings which again had that great breading! We couldn't leave without trying the pies which were flying off the shelves! Lemon Meringue was very good with the very tall meringue in which they are known for and my husband ordered the pie with blueberries and bananas in which he said was one of the best pies he's ever had! We would be back since the food was good and really our waitress was very friendly just took long to get our food, but hey don't let that stop you, this place is...
Read moreMy family and I always make the 3 hour drive out to Glen Rose just for their pies every year. We’ve never had a bad experience and that’s why we always come back as an annual trip. Today, we walked in and no one greeted us nor asked if we needed help, maybe because we are Asian but 3 workers just stood there talking to each other. Then a very unhappy lady finally came up and didn’t even greet us and I asked if it was possible to do the 6 variety slice pies but in different containers because they’re going to our neighbors and family members. She rudely said no and I asked if we could have some to go boxes on the side and she said that she would have to charge us for them. That’s fine with us for paying for the boxes, no big deal.
While she was packing the pies, I was waiting and she was very loudly ranting about us to her coworkers and saying she’s never had someone ask that before. We’ve done this every year and have had no issues with getting extra styrofoam boxes given to us because we always buy to give to other people. She was just so unprofessional and rude while discussing about us when we were right behind the front counter. Very disappointed in our experience today which is sad because this place is somewhere we look forward to...
Read moreThis place reminds me of the truck stop that my mother owned back in the '80s. This place was not too crowded at the time I was there they must get pretty busy though because that there was a dining area in the back on the way to the restroom that was closed. The waitress was kind and quickly responded to us with the menus after we sat down. She took our order on the little green pad with the numbers on it remember those??, She ask all the right questions in order to prepare our food correctly and noted it on the ticket before she took it to the Cook instead of entering it in a computer like everyone does nowadays. As I waited for my food I noticed the black and white pictures on the wall from 1908 of the restaurant as well as the downtown area, it was pretty cool. Also hanging on the wall was a collection of salt and pepper shakers that belong to the grandmother of the owner. All kinds of salt and pepper shakers big ones little ones ones of animals ones of people there was even a couple of boats in the collection! Our food arrived, just as we had ordered it and was very good. They also sold whole pies with flavors too many to mention for $10. All in all just some good old down home cooking with a...
