The Island Rec Center is a well-maintained facility with clean equipment and facilities. The standard types of equipment available at the center make it a great option for those looking for a basic workout. However, there are some downsides to the center as well.
One negative aspect of the Island Rec Center is that there can be occasional wait times for equipment. This can be frustrating for those who have a limited amount of time to work out. Additionally, the indoor facility closes down over holidays due to floor resurfacing, which can be inconvenient for regular members.
The center also experiences parking issues during weekend events and meetings, which can make it difficult for members to find a parking spot. Additionally, noise levels indoors can be high during these events, which can be a distraction for those trying to work out.
For individuals with disabilities, there are some concerns as well. The Island Rec Center does not have automatic doors for entry or exit, which can make it difficult for those with mobility issues. Disabled parking spaces are often used by individuals without permits, which can make it challenging for those who truly need these spaces. Furthermore, the fitness area is located upstairs, making it difficult for those with mobility issues to access when the only elevator is inoperable. Additionally, disabled parking is inadequate. The disabled parking spaces on the side of the building do not meet the requirement of being closest to a functioning entrance; one of the spaces is often utilized by the Island Rec Center to park a trailer, which is not acceptable.
In summary, the Island Rec Center is a well-maintained facility with standard equipment, but it does have some downsides. The occasional wait times for equipment, noise levels during events, and lack of accessibility for individuals with disabilities are all issues that need to be addressed. Overall, the Island Rec Center has the potential to be a great facility for all members if these concerns are taken into consideration and addressed...
Read moreHandicap people should be aware that the Rec Center is only friendly to those who don't bring up issues like the handicap parking spots that the Rec Center uses for their equipment. They invited me to get a membership elsewhere. The facility is very nice but becoming more and more crowded making work out times longer due to waiting for equipment. Parking is another big problem at the Rec Center especially for elderly and disabled people. Disabled parking spaces are quite often taken by non disabled people. Even after pointing this out to staff and management repeatedly it still has not been addressed. My conclusion is that the Rec Center only cares about how much money they can make and not about how to provide good service to its members.
Thank you for your response however it did not address any of the issues but merely stated why you can't or won't do anything about them. Furthermore I have alerted the staff every time I see a vehicle without a handicap ID and they tell me there is nothing they can do, I even suggested they alert the Sheriff. Perhaps more training is required for staff. I would also like to point out that the 2 handicap spots on the side by the pool do not meet the state requirements for 2 reasons 1) there is a sign that has been parked in one of the spots for over a year now making it inaccessible 2) there is no unlocked door within a reasonable distance for these 2 spots. I intend to follow up with the state ADA regarding this matter. I make these points not to complain but to give you an opportunity to improve your...
Read moreI took a lifeguard certification course back in April of 2023 with Brian Koch. I reached out multiple times after completing the class. He responded once saying he was going to get back to me and never did. I eventually reached out to the American Red Cross and they informed me that he never even sent them record of me completing this course. I have since called the rec center as well as emailed Brian again and STILL nothing! This is completely unacceptable. I am now out $200 and cannot be a lifeguard because of how irresponsible our teacher was. There were 2 other girls that took the course with me who also never received their certifications. They have both reached out to Brian as well and never heard back. My employer ALSO emailed him, and nothing. I am at a loss of words for how unprofessional this whole...
