Super Oriental Market — Attraction in Homewood

While recommending this restaurant to a friend new to the city, it dawned on me that I hadn't written a review of it. I'm slipping. I will admit that. Now that that's over, on to the review.

This place is neat for many reasons. For starters, it seems to be authentic based on the customers that were seen eating here. It has a nice, classy ambience that would be good for a night out with friends or romantic enough for a casual date night. The evening I went, I ordered the sesame chicken. I remembered thinking that it was good, but I had had better. However, Red Pearl has soooo many other delicious choices to choose from, and I'm looking forward to trying the double spicy chicken that other Yelpers have raved about.

The supermarket is in the same building. Here, you will find frozen squid, live bullfrogs and roasted whole ducks for your dining pleasure. Even if you're not interested in purchasing anything, you must go in and check it out. It's like a field trip to an exotic country without having to get a passport!

Surprisingly a LOT of things inside a small space!!! Expect to be pleasantly surprised. If you have something you aren't sure you'd find in Birmingham you'd find it here. A BIG WIDE variety of asian groceries, kitchen items, cuts of meat & vegetables. At this point they are not just a grocery store 😂 They also have gator fillet in the frozen section!!! What can I say!! GATOR CHOMP!!!! Also a very obvious thing to say about Asian grocery store ik but a whole new world of plant protein for you non-asian vegans and vegetarians. We're just v cool 😎✌️

June 2 2023 update... I love everything here but can u guys please keep things labeled "keep frozen" inside freezers not in open fridges? A few months ago I bought a bag of youtiaos that was on one of these open fridges, just to come home to unpack it and find out they had black mold in nooks and crannies. Me and my gf made another trip to super oriental on June 2nd and picked up a package of dumplings that was in these open fridges, again, just to find out that they were supposed to be frozen. I love yall but this is just SO...

This one has fresh seafood, lots of stuff from woks to bowls to eating utensils and food stuffs!!! A RESTAURANT attached TOO!!!!!!!

Spices GALORE!!! RAMEN SOUPS OF ALL KINDS!

Everything to cook your own meals from tea for two (and tea sets!), drinks, soup ingredients (mushrooms of exotic types!), frozen meats and meals to desserts!!!

They are kind and nice. I came in late and was walking down aisles as they were mopping. I am sure it was annoying but the man seemed more concerned that I watched myself and didn't fall.

Trust me on this one, it's fun to look and more fun to buy! Try your hand at making Naruto Ramen or my favorite, Shrimp with Lobster sauce.
