Parking at this entrance means you can choose either a boat ride to the park or a tram ride. The boat leaves on every hour and half hour. But if you miss the boat (or it's full) the tram will take you. After enoying the park today with our nearly 3 year old daughter, we enjoyed the quiet, relaxing, and scenic boat ride back. Unfortunately her hat fell into the water, and she was unconsolable. Once we arrived at the visitor center we let the Captain of the boat know where it was dropped and he radioed the next Captain (they have two boats running simultaneously... I think) to look for it and retrieve it if possible. While we waited inside the cooled visitor center the volunteers there offered us crayons and a bobcat picture for our little one to color. It was very kind of them. They found her hat and brought it to us! We were so impressed with their kindness, and very grateful for their efforts. Thank you! We consider the boat ride especially a major benefit of coming to this state park where you can see mantees (underwater too), a hippo, alligators, deer, otters, a variety of birds and reptiles, as well as...
Read moreThe visitor center is a great place to park if you're visiting the wildlife. This is where you catch the tram, boats or take the pathway over to the West entrance to see the animals. There's some great exhibits inside as well as some history of the park. There are rangers and volunteers who can answer your questions. There's also lots of parking for cars trucks and RVs. If you're going to be there through the afternoon park next to the tree line for shade. They're also kennels outside where you can keep your dogs since they're not allowed in the park. Boats run on the half hour if you want to plan your arrival. You can pay for your Park admission and the boat ride here. If you decide to arrive and park at the West entrance you can also pay there and won't need to take a boat. Boats are $3 in addition to the park entrance fee. If you're taking a family group and will be visiting again this year or any other Florida State Park be sure to look at the individual and family membership plans. The family plan is a real...
Read moreUnfortunately, arrived not knowing that the Manatees had already left! They leave in March, got there in April! Just didn’t catch/ pick up on that tidbit of info through reading on the Homosassa Springs website! Live and learn I guess, haha. Did get to see Lou, absolutely beautiful hippo. A lot of wildlife being rehabilitated, some, unfortunately will never get to be back in the wild due to the injuries sustained. I believe there were 5 manatees being rehabilitated due to strikes from the blades of some boats. One of them lost 60% mobility of it’s tail due to a strike on the top back side creating a bulge because of the spine being damaged. We as humans need to do better! Employees were knowledgeable and very nice. Park itself is very beautiful, peaceful and serene! We will definitely be going back again! To the staff at the park we love y’all and keep up the great work...
