I thought long and hard about making this post but, I feel it’s my obligation to tell the good people of SMW, Crystal River and Homosassa what happened tonight while eating at the local Mexican restaurant “El Mezcal” I will add that I’ve eaten there many times and have had good meals, and I’ve also had a couple of odd occurrences. I thought I would try one more time to see if they could iron out the past kinks. Like “very burnt over cooked chicken wings hard enough to hammer a nail in a piece of wood” “steak being thin and scraggly that’s over cooked and very fatty”
I generally get the same thing as I’m a creature of habit. And yes it’s the thin straggly steak as I like it. (Or used to) Tonight steak turned up Looking burnt and looking all Shades of different colors? The give away that something was wrong was the smell? And most definitely the taste! I wasn’t sure at first so I ate a couple of pieces but could immediately taste the bad meat. I cut another piece and held it to my nose “it smelled like road kill” it was absolutely rancid 🤢 my wife confirmed that indeed it was bad. I called the manager and told him that the guy that cooked the steak should be fired immediately and that it was totally unacceptable to serve rotten meat to its customers.
He said he was sorry but, just like the other times he seemed oblivious to just how bad this was. Their English isn’t very good!
It dawned on me that others in the restaurant may be eating the same tainted meat. I told him I wasn’t paying for our drinks or my wife’s meal which was different to mine. And if I got sick because of the meal, he would be seeing me the following day. We will never go back there again and I hope, if you decide to eat there, that you check your food first.
I’ll contact the health department on Monday. No! I’m not sick. But to serve rotting meat to good patrons is just criminal.
El Mezcal. Be very careful...
Read moreWe came here on a Sunday afternoon and after a couple of minutes were seated. Our waitress came over, introduced herself as our server, and promptly look our drink order. She returned with our drinks, took our food order and we never saw her again…
About 10 minutes later another server arrived with my food, but not that of my husband’s. I waited 5 minutes to eat thinking that his would be out any second, but it didn’t come. Finally our 2nd server returned 10 minutes after my food arrived to ask if everything was good. I told him no- that my husband still hadn’t received his meal. The waiter was very confused and said- you ordered food??? So…. We once again gave him the order. He came back 10 minutes later to tell us that the kitchen was working on it… and then 5 minutes after that with my husband’s food. By this time, I was nearly done with my meal.
The food was good, but not great. The guacamole was very bland consisting of just avocados and tomatoes. The salsa was also very bland- mostly just tomato sauce and chopped up tomatoes. I ordered chicken enchiladas. My husband ordered the 2 beef burrito meal. Both meals were good, but not great….and they came 25 minutes apart from each other. So, we really didn’t even get to eat our meal together.
No concessions were offered-like a discount on our meal, a free drink or even a coupon for a future visit. It felt like the restaurant was being run by a lot of teenagers who really didn’t know what they were supposed to be doing or how to handle an ordering/kitchen mishap. The staff was friendly, but sort of clueless.
Not a great experience overall…. But we will try it one more time to see if they...
Read moreWe were super excited to celebrate Cinco de Mayo decided to try a new restaurant in the area so this was our choice. I ordered the Carnitas. The meat was cold and very dry. The rice looks bright and colorful, but is lacking in flavor. They did not include the toppings or the tortillas that the menu listed should’ve come with it! The second picture is supposed to be a steak quesadilla but this is what we got pretty much small tortilla with steak and Just thrown in a box no toppings not even cut. We were super disappointed. The only thing that turned out good for our order was the appetizer order of street corn it’s actually two corn cobs cut in half. It was very good in flavorful but not really a filling meal we spent approximately $40 and Had it delivered! We used GrubHub and we live exactly 8 minutes from the front door of the restaurant we played for priority delivery And the food arrived in Great time I think that’s why we’re so disappointed to receive cold food. I placed the order at 6:12 and the food arrived at 6:42 delivery driver stated that we were lucky to get food considering there were at least 50 people standing outside the restaurant waiting to be seated. Of course GrubHub was no help and offered no refund or assistance, and I tried calling the restaurants several times only to get constant busy signal. I will definitely not be ordering from...
