This was a nice hike for the nature aspect of it and you could hear a lot of birds though out the trail. There also are hundreds of mountain apples though out hanging from trees and strawberry guava cherries hanging out though some of the trees that make for a nice tasty treat though out your hike. But if you are looking for a hike with great views this is not the one for you. Same goes for having excess to the water. They do have some waterfalls here and a cuple of streams that sound very relaxing. But are not good to get into to cool off. I did see lots of older people and kid's-dog's going on the trail. It can be pretty sunny at some part's and with all the fruits and water parts around makes this hike a buggy one. So don't forget to spray Off or some type of repellent for insects, and bring plenty of water for this hike. There also is plenty of parking onsite and they have a nice restrooms and a place to raise off your shoes after your hike. I hope this helps you out and have...

The only reason it even gets 2 stars is because it did successfully preserve this land from development.

If you have done everything else on your Oahu list then do one of those things twice! Absolutely no views 2.5 mile loop. The 8 mile loop does have ridge views but it is just not worth it.

This trail has zero trail maintenance with erosion everywhere. Weather has been dry last few days but trail is still muddy.

Honestly the worst excuse for an arboretum I have ever seen terrible layout and very little educational value for the community. I do have to give a credit for preserving the land from development.

It’s really disappointing to see the number of people that provide 5 star reviews for places just existing on...

I enjoyed myself when I went on Superbowl Sunday. There was hardly any people, and. that's what I wanted. I was able to get some nice nature pictures. I did not, however, see a lookout, and I kept going until I started to head towards. Tantalus. Then the trail got too wet and difficult. It was wet and a bit dangerous at the higher levels, and it didn't even rain. I am 42 and in good health, but the average 40 year old would probably have some difficulty. They close at 6pm, and if I had gone any further, there would have been a chance that I got stuck over night out there. It's beautiful but should be taken care of and protected. There wasn't any rubbish. It was just green as far as the...

I was watching football games I didn't care about, the wife was sleeping in, and realized I just needed to get out for some fresh air. I didn't want to take all day, but I didn't want a stroll either. Makiki Valley was perfect. I live in town so it's nearby, and it's less than 3 miles but 1000 foot elevation change. There's a 1-mile side loop so I did that too. I've done the 6+ mile loop, but that's more commitment than I had in me today. Since I didn't get an early start, it rained. Felt refreshing, but i was glad I brought a change of shoes and shirt. Got home in time to see the highlights of the games I didn't care about.

This is my favorite trail cause its close to my apartment but also cause it's stunning ! Just be careful when it rains it can get really muddy and slippery. Wear good shoes with traction on them. I don't know if it's because I'm really clumsy but I tend to trip a lot 😅I see lots of couples bring their children on this trail and the kids don't seem to have a hard time with it , I do though but that's probably cause I'm out of shape and have herniated discs . 10/10 recommend

Very nice trail! So close to the city and not crowded. We saw (tame?) wild pigs, and a lot of super cute stay cats in the evening. Lush rainforest. Some mosquitos, but if you don't stop walking they don't sting ;)
