We are a family of 4 with 2 teenage daughters. The whole family enjoyed the experience. We paid $20 each. This was our first swamp tour.
The most important factor for us was alligator sightings. We saw 8 alligators up close. You will see about the same. Alligators are territorial so they stay in the same area. The largest was 10 feet long and the smallest was about 6 feet long. The guide calls them like pets and feeds them chicken from a pole. They were close and we got good action photos.
The boat is open so we were exposed to the sun. It was hot and we went on the morning tour at 10am on a mild day (90 degrees and partly cloudy). I highly recommend the morning tour. Next time I will probably book a tour with a covered boat.
The tour is on a public water way. I'm not an expert on Louisiana swamps but it wasn't what I was expecting. Much of the trip is along a canal with houses on both sides. Because it's a public waterway the gator population is impacted by hunting. Next time I will chose a tour that has private swamp access which should have more gators and a more authentic swamp experience.
The guide was friendly and had decades of history in the area. We enjoyed...
Read moreMark was our captain and tour guide. The tour lasted around two hours - it was truly amazing!!! A must-do swamp tour if you're in Lousiana. Mark gave a informative, educational but equally entertaining swamp tour. The price was very reasonable. He went above and beyond to answer any questions we had. He has earned my highest recommendation!!!
Detail: Mark greeted us (five of us in total) at ~10am at a dock and made us feel comfortable before the tour. He has a spacious boat that can accommodate up to 16 people. He fed the eagles and alligators so that we could look at them in close proximity. He gave us tons of information about the wildlife, swamp versus swamp, alligator hunting, coastal erosion, etc. At the end of the tour, he gave us tips on where to dine. In the evening on the same day, I texted him and asked for advice on a wildlife trail. He answered immediately. I now have a great impression of Houma LA...
Read moreMy husband and I asked for a Sunday tour, and Jim took us out even though no one else joined our tour! Incredibly courteous and kind, Jim had all kinds of knowledge and stories to share. He found two big gators for us to see, and he fed them quite a bit of chicken right on the side of the boat. Awesome addition to the tour.
The tour starts on the canal, but gets into the swamp pretty quickly (about 30 min in). Jim has good knowledge worth hearing about the canal and the local industries, also.
If Jim isn’t available, then his son Mark will take you. Mark is awesome just like his dad. Highly recommended! It leaves from a great bar, On The Canal Bar, where we heard some great live zydeco...
