Danny Jackson Bark park has the cleanest water of any of the major dog parks in the Houston area. Chv2 tested the water at all the big dog parks for a story about 3 years ago.
They actually drain and clean the pond every week in the summer and every other week in the winter! The guys who work there do an outstanding job and are very proud of their work. If you run into them, you should thank them for their hard work!
The only issues I have had are with some people who don’t know much about dogs... some of them even bring food into the park! And sit on the one bench closest to the pond, and facing the pond and wearing their Sunday best. I don’t have a problem with that - it’s just when they get upset about a dog shaking on them or rubbing on them... lol. It’s the dog park! Dress for it!
The cleaning stations are really nice and kept clean and in good working order.
Be careful about leaving belongings in your car. Like all the other dog parks, thieves like to work the parking lot. The constables hang out in the parking lot quite often and if you call them, they are there in 2 minutes. With all the malls and stuff closed for COVID19, the thieves are probably working the dog parks a little harder, so just be careful.
I have a service dog, not comfort support, but a real service dog. Alexander the Great. Alex lives it there! And for me, that’s what really counts!
The color of the water is because they put dye in it every day to keep the algae from growing. The color depends on what kind of Algae is prevalent at the time. They also test and put chlorine in it every day.
It’s open until 10 pm and feels safe. There are “rush” hours in the early morning, lunchtime and early evening. Mid morning and afternoon, there are always at least a few dogs...
Great park! Enjoy! Hope Alex and I see...
Read moreWe’ve been bringing our dog here for about 3 years. It’s a great spacious dog park with plenty of parking. There are two separate areas, one for large dogs and one for small dogs that connect in the middle with a gate. It’s really nice for people to have the option to bring their small dogs without worrying about larger more playful breeds. Both areas have a dog pond that is usually well maintained and a small covered seating area for the humans. Both have doggy poop bag dispensers and trash cans throughout the park. The water is treated for algae and bacteria and the dye gives it a bright blue color. My pup loves to swim and goes straight to the water every time we go. There are peak times through out the day where the park is more busy but most of the time it’s fine. There’s plenty of space for both the dogs and the humans to roam around it’s always felt really safe, even once it gets dark. The park closes at 10pm and there is some lighting around that helps. One of my favorite features is the dog washing station, which is a blessing since my dog loves to swim and get dirty at the park. There are hoses to make the dog baths easier, and most people bring shampoo and towels for their pups. Overall a great place for dogs to play, swim, make friends and expend...
Read morehad a wonderful time here with the puppy! in our dog park tour of Houston this one was one of our absolute favorites. we came at about 11:30-noonish on a Monday, and there were plenty of other dogs to play with! there’s a sizable water feature that got deep enough that even a Mastiff could swim without touching the bottom, but it tapered in at the sides so a more hesitant dog could feel it out before jumping in. the water was surprisingly clean, though for some reason it was dyed blue, in spite of being ok for the dogs to drink? the park itself is pretty big, with a side for big and small dogs, tall, sturdy fences the whole way around, and plenty of space to run! the park has a nice canopied area to shelter from the sun while your pup plays, though it won’t hold up to too heavy rain! after a big rain, things can get a little muddy, so be sure to dress for the possibility! there was also plenty of parking alongside the park as well, and everything was reasonably flat to walk, though the mud could be a bit difficult to traverse for anyone with limited mobility. all in all, this was one of my favorite dog parks I’ve been to so far- tons of fun for puppy, and so fun to watch...
