Texas Southern University. sigh I visited this school countless number times because my boyfriend and I are long distance. The faculty and students became family. It got to the point where people thought I went there for graduate school.
Everyone you meet at this school takes PRIDE in being a Tiger. Texas Southern University is a public Historical Black College University (HBCU). According to their website, "The university was established in 1927 as the Houston Colored Junior College. It developed through its private college phase as the four-year Houston Colored College. On March 3, 1947, the state declared this to be the first state university in Houston; it was renamed Texas State University for Negroes. In 1951, the name changed to Texas Southern University. "
Let's just say, HISTORIC.
Every time I would come visit, the school was always painted with the smiles of maroon and grey. Students have the opportunity to advance in their education with a bachelors, masters, and in Law.
Texas Southern University is a championship school. When I say that, I actually mean it. Their sports teams are well known in their SWAC Division for great reasons.
This charming HBCU school is home to a diverse amount of students that love to participate to make their school a better place. From their student council to Greek life (Black greek orgs, band, music, and multicultural), to specialized clubs, Texas Southern University has a lot to offer.
Note and advise to current students and future students: Get involved. Do internships. Next work as much as possible and cherish what your school...
Read moreSent over my transcript and paid my admission fees. They told me that I need transcripts from 2 other schools i attended in the past. I told them I didn’t have credits to transfer but they told me i still needed it. Ok bet. I paid to have those transferred. I start getting notifications that my transcripts weren’t retrieved. I was supposed to start in the summer. I got countless notifications over and over. Still didn’t retrieve them. I called several times over, got numerous contacts, left numerous emails etc. Still to no avail. I called one last time and was told can you just come up here??? WHAT??? I have to work. You mean nothing will get done unless I go up there to kick a damn door down??? I wanted to go to an HBCU but it looks like I have to explore other options on top of having to start way later than i anticipated. SUCKS!!!! Rewind to last year when my classmate and I wanted to start school again to further our degrees. We walked the campus and was sent from office to office to office. You can see people in their office but refuse to open the doors. No one seems to know what they are talking about so they send you to someone else that don’t know. Everyone was rude and unhelpful. We took a day off work and got absolutely NOTHING accomplished. Missed a day of work to play visit TSU offices. I wish there was an option to give 0 stars cause this school is a damn joke. I wouldn’t advise no one to waste their time. Just try another school until they can get their staff on the right track to...
Read moreSo far I have not been happy with the school. Since summer of success has begun there has been a gun scare in my sons building resulting in him run on for his life and damaging his new laptop. The finacial aide office is sluggish and failed to give us enough infrmation to complete our finacial aide info .At the mixer a Mr. Armstrong stated we would not need our w-2 and 4weeks later my son is pulled from class only to learn that we do need this. I feel that the school needs to improve on these so called nightly meeting where the only real discussion is sex amd drugs on campus. This happens nearly every night. Im wishing I would have never sent my boy here. I also dont like that his roommates parents keep popping in to the dorm like making the roommate clean and such. The women often comes with her mother and they just barge in and invade these boys privacy on a regular basis. The weed and god knows whatever else is on campus is simply disturbing since Im wondering how much more to expect from students that already live there and the projects are directly across the street. Between the lady that answers the finacial aide phones (ghetto) and the poor communication the school has with the students im wondering how long it will be before I have to make a trip to put my foot in onebodies a $$! I should have had my son wait out at community...
