Shipleys does NOT care about BLACK communities! They have the audacity to open stores in our neighborhoods and then predominantly hire people from other ethnicities. It's egregiously unacceptable that a historically Black community, is represented by only one or two employees. Most of their staff either don’t speak English or barely speak it, and they are not familiar with our culture, nor are they prominent in our communities. Despite contacting shipleys three times, nothing has been done to address this issue. This is blatant disrespect, and a slap in the face to the people who have been keeping them in business all these years. I will never shop there again! We are forming a grassroots organization to tackle this issue in all our BLACK communities throughout Houston. Why? Well, because when you visit shipleys locations in NON BLACK communities, you DONT see such a disparity in the ethnic makeup of their employees. Their staff is 100% non-Black, which is acceptable to have at least or only ONE black employee in a non black community. It's EXTREMELY insulting to come into OUR neighborhoods and hire just a token Black employee or two, when we make up 90% of the customers. We are organizing Grassroots efforts and door-to-door campaigns, and we will speak with our spending power! We will no longer TOLERATE the DISRESPECT to our BLACK communities who keep them in business! its time to FIGHT BACK!
your platatudes are falling on deaf ears, we as the Black American community dont want or care about your apologies or excuses, we want results! as I figured, the owner does not care just as i mentioned above. for all Black people, take a look at the employee ratio inside, and SEE this EGREGIOUS DISPARITY for yourself the next time you shop there! Lets start choosing other pastry businesses to spend our dollars with, namely a place called
Voodoo Doughnut, 1214 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77006
only a few minutes away and its BLACK OWNED! LETS SHOW them we mean...

Read moreThe manager at this store was quite rude. I tried to call and make an order through the drive through and he immediately told me I had to wait and ignored me. Well here's my take - I was very patient and if he simply told me that they don't do large orders over the phone, that would have been it. But he straight hung up. Horrible customer service.
Had to follow this up with the manager. He actually walking out of the store to approach me! What the hell was that? Im a female without my husband in the car. Say what?
Also, he's constantly calling and hanging up. I'm not entirely sure what I've done - only give him some advice on NOT hanging up on the customer.
