The Hudson Community Thrift Shop — Attraction in Hudson

Was delighted at first to see that they had individuals with disabilities working at the thrift store. As someone who loves thrifting and has a passion for working with people with disabilities it was like walking into my dream! After being there for a bit I began to hear some commentary by who I believe was the boss or manager of the thrift store. I was disgusted at some of the comments I heard such as referring to the workers as “slaves” and that she is the “slave driver” and discussing with another person that one of the other workers was concerned about putting too much labor onto the workers. The boss was mad about the worker feeling that way and said “no you don’t do these things, make them do it all. They don’t get to leave early. I’m not going on disability for this job.” The workers with disabilities would sit down for a minute to take a break and she would tell them to get up and was pointing fingers and giving them ridiculous tasks such as “unplugging a vacuum” which is something she very well could have assisted with. I was in their a total of I’d say 45 mins and that was enough for me to decide that I will not be back. I made small talk with the worker as they clearly were looking for some type of connection to someone who will treat them with some decency. As a thrift shop that claims to be in partnership with a church, I don’t think your religion would support the behavior I saw today. We need more advocates in this world for disabled people. It was a very pleasant day It’s so nice and Very helpful that disabled people can go in there and help and learn life skills. I really recommend this place for a lot of drifters and it just shows how people are committing are able to help those people With disability, I really enjoyed it. Very nice people. This shop was closed when I arrived. Despite the OPEN flag outside, the door was locked and a sign posted read closed 11:30-12:15 for lunch. No idea if this is everyday, but you might want to check if you’re planning on driving out there at that time. Disappointing, but hope to be in...
