Long story short: DO NOT BOOK WITH LEARN TO SURF. UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNCOMMUNICATIVE! Here's why:
I booked a 2 hour surf lesson with a GoPro package on Memorial Day weekend. Unfortunately, something came up and it was difficult for me to make it to my appointment. So, I emailed the owner, Jason, and asked him if I could reschedule the previous night. He did not respond after my second email, and waited until I called HIM, even though I am the customer. He responded to my call an hour prior to my lesson and I ended up going to avoid the $50 rescheduling fee.
I showed up to my lesson and met an instructor named Dylan. He was waiting in a white van. He gave me my board, which was extremely beat up and old. The foam was torn up and it was a 9ft paddle board. I told him I wanted to work on catching waves by myself because I have surfed before and that was my area of difficulty. Although he tried hard to get me on waves, he did not help me in any way to improve as a surfer. To add on, my GoPro was not securely attached to the surfboard so I don't know if there was any real footage caught on camera. It was flopping around the entire time. What a waste of money! That was strike two.
My instructor told me that I would receive my GoPro footage within 24-48 hours. It has been over a week since my lesson and I haven't received it. I emailed Jason, and guess what? Slow response, broken promises. Could've guessed, right? He said he was on vacation and will send me my footage over the weekend. Obviously, I have not received it. Strike three. This is RIDICULOUS.
If you can't be professional and communicate with your customers, then you probably should NOT be running a business. Complete waste of my time, energy and hopes. If you love to be disappointed and angry, book with Learn to Surf! (Sarcasm implied)
UPDATE: The owner, Jason, threatened to sue me because of my negative review, claiming he "has a law degree." He told me he would give me my GoPro footage if I took my review down. Obviously, he does not have a business degree because that is not how you do...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI wrote the whole negative my experience and it was instantly deleted. Me and my friend had a circumstancial situation to stop the lesson. Owner Jason told us that accidents happen and it's our fault(to get stung by stingray). We really wanted to make up our lesson and ask for makeup. They requested additional money to reschedule and when we did, they overbooked another lesson over ours. Called to complaint and they hung up the phone. Glad that i didn't pay additional cost for nothing and we still wasted our money without lesson. Their van is parked on the beach street with wetsuits for rental, don't think they ever clean them. Not very sanitary and i was afraid one of the suit with blood on would be still there. I would recommend other surfing lesson place for better service. Jason i have corrected your name thanks for pointing out typo. If this wasn't happen, you wouldn't have called to ask to delete my review. My review is simply from my personal experience not the story i...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThank you Learn to Surf team for the most AMAZING afternoon - Jason for being super flexible and efficient in slotting me last minute to make it happen, and Jacob for being the most fantastic coach ever! He has an innate intuition for guidance, and really creates the positive vibes that make laughing at every wipe out as enjoyable as being proud of every ride! He was supportive and sensitive to my every need in the learning process, but also gave great detailed feedback that constructively built my confidence. From someone who has PTSD from drowning previously, I have never felt safer or happier on a board. In between breaks i had surfing strategies explained to me in concrete achievable steps, but also in life metaphors about the ocean and the universe, to the insane backdrop of a brilliant sunset. I think I got a surf lesson and a TED talk all in one š Definitely can't wait to be back - thank...
