Chicago 🌟 Fun and Kid-Friendly Spots Worth Visiting!

Extremely educational, interactive and fun. We went as a family of 6. We had a 1, 3, 5 and 16 year old. There appeared to be 4 rooms and you’re able to do 3 rooms per tour. I loved how my children were able to learn about Black inventors and get to see, touch, smell to learn and remember these inventors and their contribution to the world we live in. My 5 year old loved the STEAM and song that was taught. In the STEAM room they even accommodated my 16 year old by allowing him to code. Our tour guide was very patient, straight forward, engaging and warm at the same time. We had a great time and would definitely come again. You’re able to get a membership and they have events year round. Highly recommend. Takes about 2 hours to fully make it through.

The two ladies present greeted us at the door. We arrived upon opening at 10am. Admission fee noted but inquired about military discount which they honored. There’s a set guide within the museum where the children are initially part of a history discussion, art/craft session, then a 7min. video and finally hands-on playtime. My grandchildren were 3 and 4yrs old and they were attentive and enjoyed both the craft & play time. We remained the only patrons until our departure over an hour later when another family was coming in. I would highly recommend families to visit this museum because it emphasizes people of color and their contributions along with historical sites in Chicago.

TLDR: This place is unfriendly, rude, inaccessible. Was blocked at the door and told to go elsewhere!

Their website at the very bottom says that their “museum“ is designed for 4- 9 year olds. What it doesn’t mention is that if you bring a 2 year old, you will be turned away. I drove 30 min to come this run down building as I wanted to patronize more south side businesses. This was a mistake as the owners are rude and condescending. A 501c3 is not supposed to act as some weird club that can turn away kids because you assume 2 year olds don’t have the capacity to do arts and crafts - which is so stupid.

This place has been in the neighborhood for years and yet it is always empty and no I know has ever gone inside. This place could and should be more accessible instead of telling people to call around and go to another museum.

They had the audacity to try and explain how children’s museums work. Maybe take better notes.

Oh and they told me to try the children’s museum at navy pier - considering it’s closer and you clearly don’t want any customers - I will and so should...

Cute little spot on the city's south side, and a great space for children to spend an afternoon.

Before we get started, they only accept cash. Know this before you go, otherwise you'll be using the ATM which I'm sure charges a stiff fee in order to withdraw cash (Can you tell I hate having to pay someone to take my money out of the bank?)

Point of interest: This is the nations first and ONLY african american children's museum, and that's saying a LOT in 2018.

The guide that we had was super interactive and reminded me of my pre-school teachers from years ago. Very thorough and capable of keeping four very wiggly children focused long enough to make it through exhibits.

We did have a discount card from the library, and that gave us admission for $3 instead of full price of $5

With a focus on STEM and history of the city of Chicago, my children were able to run and play and learn about famous Chicagoans and their importance in the history of our city. I recommend you visit at least once to round out the museum experience in...
