Stopped off here while at UC's hospital. Nice sculpture with plaques explaining what occurred here: the world's first controlled nuclear fission reaction. Parking is street and a bit hard to find. Wish the sculpture had a description as to the design, but beyond that it is amazing to stand on the spot where Piles 1, 2, and 3 were. A neat piece of history!

The sculpture itself is quite intriguing, but the moment in history it marks is even more interesting. This place marks the first controlled self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction back in the 40s, and is arguably the start of the nuclear age. Pretty cool to see this among the campus buildings.

The sculpture is cool. There's a plaque by the road. You're able to walk around it at a distance or close up if you can walk up a few stairs. It offers the chance for reflecting on the uses of the nuclear chain reactions, both the good and the bad, inviting the viewer to think...
