You ever go to a place thatâs so good and you love it so much that you almost donât even want to share it with anyone? Itâs so special that if other people knew about it, they would overcrowd it, and then it would be too busy for you to enjoy it? Thatâs my fear with this place, but I owe it to the people running it to let them know how amazing they are and how much I adore coming here. Itâs worth it, even if itâs too busy for me to ever find somewhere to sit inside ever again.
Iâll begin by saying that itâs inside of University of Chicago and itâs on the second floor, past a lobby, on the left, when you enter the building. You take the stairs up and you feel like youâre in Harry Potter, ascending to one of the common rooms for gryffindor or something. The decor in the whole building definitely reminds me of hogwarts.
I learned last time I went there that this is a student run coffee shop, which makes it extra welcoming. All people there are super relaxed and play the best music.
Anyway, so you walk in and you see a counter to your left that had a microwave and supplies for your drink or food. Immediately to your right is the bar where you can place your order. Along the wall, beyond the bar, they have fridges with food offering vegetarian and vegan options. The main floor of the space is quite interesting too. The are two rows of couches that center around coffee tables closest to the entrance. Then, farther from the door, there are three billiards tables. Beyond that, round tables with chars as well as comfy cushiony chairs around small coffee tables line and sprinkle the rest of the space. Along the floor, they have outlets to charge your electronics (nice touch, considering how medieval it looks). Also, the shelves under the coffee bar where you order hold at least 5 different kind of board games for you to enjoy.
My favorite parts about this place: the windows make you feel like youâre inside a castle the windows can double as reading nooks, and they have extra pillows (but not too many) for you to get comfy, too. you have a good chance of talking to a student or two, and theyâre all very nice and intelligent and open minded. I donât think you need to buy anything to be there, but I love the overall welcoming and cozy atmosphere. I hope they donât mind, but I usually take my shoes off and put my feet up on the couch or in the reading nook. Thatâs how comfortable it is!!! Itâs like the perfect study space!
The only drawback is if youâre not a student, there is no WiFi, but that can be a good restraint sometimes if you donât need internet but do need to seriously focus.
This is by far my most favorite place that I have ever written in or otherwise worked in. It gives me the warmest feeling in my heart. I...
Read moreWe had to stop by while we were in the area. I was worried it wouldnât be accessible due to the age of the building and architecture. There was no need to worry at all. There are multiple elevators and I was able to access it with no problems! The accessible entrance is on 57th st. And I did have to follow signs to get from one elevator to the next, but it was pretty easy. This would also be VERY accessible to electric chairs. The only tight squeeze would probably be around lounge chairs by the top of the stairwell, but honestly, itâs pretty doable. I didnât stay to hang out, so Iâm not sure how easily my chair would fit under the tables, and I didnât use the restroom there. But Iâm very happy I was able to see the inside of this gorgeous campus from...
