South Shore Nature Sanctuary — Attraction in Hyde Park Township

BEAUTIFUL! I only hope it doesn't get turned into a golf course. The trail is filled with local grasses and flowers and makes a perfect habitat for need and migrating monarch butterflies. The trail is long enough for a beautiful walk, but not so long it's a full hike.

The beach is be beautiful and includes a parking lot and a bathhouse with showers.

The cultural center is right next to the beach and a spectacular building. Check the schedule to see what free event you might catch...

You kind of have to know where this place is to find it. So I won't say exactly where it is. I will say that this is a piece of heaven tucked away into a corner of the south side. The sand is clean, the breeze is refreshing and it is quiet enough to experience personal rejuvenation or family time. You have only a few more days to enjoy this space before the lifeguards are gone for the season. Friday nights house music...

A peaceful mid-afternoon walk. The weather was fine. The water a bit too cold for a swim, but I sat and enjoyed the waves. Very rare to have a solo lake experience and I was like a kid.
