South Shore Brew — Restaurant in Hyde Park Township

My husband and I stopped by this morning at 8:12am only to walk into an empty dark coffee shop. We shouted “HELLO” numerous times but there were no reply. As we were walking out there was a young lady right behind us to shut the door on our way out. My husband asked are you open and she replied no then proceeded closed the door! There was an older gentleman waiting as well who stayed there until she opened the door for him. As we were making our way back to the car both the young lady and older patron signaled us to come back. By this time we had already made our judgment based off of the first impression of the shop. This was our first time coming to this coffee and will be the last. If the shop opens at 8 then employees should be there by 7:30 to set up shop. so they opened at 9am, I arrived at 9:12 or so and the door is locked. she opens up and is like "I'm still opening so give me a few min." which confuses me a bit because I'm like what time do u open at 9am, right?? anywho, I order my 1st drink and she like we don't have any ice yet for your ice coffee because we are just opening up from being closed 2 days. so I'm like ok give it to me hot, then I order a Chai tea and ask for a large and she like oh I'm not allowed to sell a large the owner wants all drinks to come in the small 12 once sizes. I was like WHAT!!! what coffee shop only sells small size coffee. it's so weird that they open so late and offer such small coffee sizes...its like it's not a real coffee shop. the young lady working Zelda was polite and extremely professional. however I doubt I will return as a true coffee drinker I need...

Was invited to have a launch meeting at the South Shore Brew. I arrived early and was pleasantly surprised and pleased first with the atmosphere and the menu which had vegetarian/vegan options. They actually accommodate my request to substitute the cheese with Avocado for my kale panini sandwich and it was delicious. I don’t really drink coffee on a whole but that day I chose to do so and was more than happy.

The environment is fresh, trendy, clean, and wholesome. The service is solid and the atmosphere was one where social and biz meet comfortably. We were able to have a very productive business meeting over a satisfying meal.

Price point is comparable to the norm for quality...
