A Black-Owned Gem Inside a Historic Landmark
Being a top reviewer with over 20 million views, people often ask me, “Where are the hot spots?” Truth be told, I never set out to be a top reviewer—I was just a regular guy who enjoyed sharing honest experiences. But over the years, I’ve embraced the title, especially because I know folks genuinely care about where I go to eat.
Let me say this upfront: this Black-owned establishment exceeded all my expectations.
First, the location is special. It’s tucked inside the historic South Shore Cultural Center. There’s deep history here—back in the 1930s, this country club actually banned Black people and other minorities. Now, it stands as a welcoming space where everyone can dine, enjoy art, and even play golf. That shift alone speaks volumes, but let me get back to the restaurant.
The vibe here is unmatched. From the moment I walked in, I felt the energy—chill, classy, and laid back. The decor is tastefully done. You have the option to sit inside or enjoy the beautiful outdoor seating. There's a sleek and attractive bar offering a great selection of signature cocktails, wines, and beers.
The staff? Top-tier. Personable, attentive, and professional. The entire space was clean and clearly well-maintained—something I pay close attention to.
Now let’s talk food.
My server was knowledgeable and helped guide me through the menu. I ordered the veggie sliders and honey rub wings—both hit the spot. For my wife, I got the truffle fries (I’m not even a fry guy, but I purchased some truffle fries for her. I enjoyed it all so much I placed a to-go order for the veggie sliders and roasted carrots. Every bite was flavorful and well-prepared.
This place isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a whole vibe. I truly hope it stays around for years to come. To the owners, staff, the host—shout out to all of you. I really enjoyed myself.

Read moreI gave 3 because I want to support new black businesses. Let me start by saying this restaurant just had a grand opening last week. So it’s expected to have some flaws. We had a birthday party of 10. When they brought out the food they forgot my shrimp & grits, they forgot another lady cauliflower steak & another lady’s chicken. Everyone at the table was eating except us we explained to them how we are missing food. Kennedy came back out and said the kitchen is aware and working on it. By the time they brought our food everyone else was done. We did speak with Darnell (I believe he’s the manager) he apologized at first offered a drink to make up for it but I declined. Asked for my food to be compensated. He said he’ll see what he can do. After speaking with another lady at our table he decided to make all 3 of our food free. As we waited for the bill I asked for a to-go tray for a lady in our party who is hearing impaired. Kennedy came back to the table. I reminded her about the to-go tray she said “ I heard you the first time you asked for it”(with a very bad attitude) how would I know if she remembered if she already forgot my food and as a waitress she could have simply said Ok or I’ll bring it out. Then she told another lady in our party that we were mean from when we first came & sat down. Which was a lie we were very polite no issues at all. Kennedy needs her a new job because her attitude isn’t where it needs to be. Especially for this restaurant to be a new one, but Ja’ya was very nice helpful (she replaced Kennedy & handled any of our concerns bills questions etc) I'm not sure exactly what she does (she mentioned she worked the bar tonight but definitely loved her attitude. Last but not least I really enjoyed the jazz player walking around playing music definitely enjoyed that. I’m not sure how everyone in my party food was but it all looked great hope...
Read moreI hate to rate them this way because the servers were so friendly and did the best with their circumstances, however: from muddy, gritty, filthy oysters that weren't fresh, to undercooked chicken, salty wings, I want happy with anything except the calamari which although most likely frozen, was just ok. The "fix" for the undercooked chicken, (which we were told was half a chicken, was actually a quarter leg which had been cut), was a severely overcooked order. It's on the menu as served with wild rice but actually came with converted rice. The seasoning was all over as one bite of broccoli was so salty I felt my heart nearly stop and the other unseasoned. The catfish, great by all accounts but for what you get? Far too expensive. Why do we try to outprice the next establishment and forsake quality? It was just a piece of fried catfish! My friend who didn't complain about her raw chicken simply places her napkin over it, we were celebrating after all, therefore, she was charged for it... even though it was obviously dangerously inedible. And out of all the mishaps (slow bar service, no dinnerware, etc, not one manager ever came to speak with our party. Our server however dogs am awesome job of fielding our concerns while waiting two septate areas of the restaurant (indoors and the back patio area). They were completely short staffed. So unfortunately... it's a nahhh for me. I would only return with a full stomach and am still unsure what exactly we paid a service charge for. We received none of the service we paid "extra" for, especially considering we stayed after closing because members of our party were still AWAITING DRINKS paid but...
