This area of the lake is beautiful but the park is small and our experience there was less than great.
We visited the first week of October, which is between the summer lake season and the winter ski season. We pulled up to the gate to pay the $15 entry fee and I asked the guy in the booth for a park and hiking trail map. He looked behind him and said that they didn't give him any that day. I asked if the visitor center would have them and he said he wasn't sure if the visitor center would be open that day. What? First of all there was a fair amount of traffic in the park, even for off season. Secondly, how does this guy not know whether or not the visitor center is open? They were happy to take our money to park in their parking lot but couldn't be bothered to be helpful to the park visitors.
When we drove in and parked we found out the visitor center was locked and it never did open that day.
