The classes here aren't really taught....seems as though the people who attend the classes have been going for many years ...so the classes are more like an "open"class setting where people just come and hang out to do art.....the instructors kinda just hang out and newer students are kinda left on their own without instruction. The students that have been going for many years register for sessions back to back and there is not much space for new students to register. I think there needs to be some re-organization for long term students and new students...they should have open classes for long term students...and beginning classes for new people where the teacher actually teaches the class .. instead of meshing everyone all together. ....if you really want to learn pay the extra money if you can and head over to indpls arts center...the cost is significantly more but you will learn and get actual instruction..and they do offer scholarships for low income individuals.... Lastly I noticed that the art shows at Garfield tend to stick with same group of artists instead of giving different artists opportunities...(same as the arts council of indpls)....these curators and directors need to be more open and give more artists a chance..there are a tremendous amount of talented artists here in indianapolis....it's okay to mix...
Read moreThis was the first time my granddaughters and I attended an activity there. Checked in at the desk coming into the building. The activity room had several people attending but no employee present in the room to get instructions. We were told by someone there to grab some clay and have fun. I had made reservations for my granddaughters but since there were other adults participating in the activity I joined the girls. The only instructions posted was to use what materials on the tables. The activity was scheduled until 5pm and We arrived at 2:30pm and there seemed to be plenty of clay available. There had been a few other people that arrive after us and by that time there wasn't anymore clay and was not able to do a clay project but an employee brought out paints to accommodate them. One lady and her 2 grandchildren have walked in after 4pm and seemed irritated that there was not any clay left. It seemed she has visited here a few times before. I don't know if an employee had been monitoring the activity if there would have been clay left for them or not but I paid a fee on the way out for using some clay while participating in the activity with my...
Read moreGarfield Park has been around since way before I was born. And I grew up playing there with friends and I have alot of memories there. It went downhill for a while when I was younger but it's been all rebuilt years ago and they keep it really nice now. I love it. Garfield Park hold a very special place in my heart. They as well have alot of benches for parents to sit on while kids play. They have a gazebo castle type thing that's gorgeous. They also have areas for picnics with alot of picnic tables under awnings for shade. Grills to BBQ and even water fountains in the okay area if the kids get thirsty playing. It's just all together...
