I reserved a shelter for my son's birthday that cost $125.00. Didn't have any issues with the price but during the initial attempt at reserving the receptionist hung up on me because I asked to pay that day in cash. "He assumed I had no card to pay when I called back asking why we were disconnected". 3 weeks later on the date of the party I found 2 different families using my shelter. I asked them to leave but they refused claiming they already moved 2 different times. Called the park office and they sent out the park police and the people still refused to leave. I tried to make the best of it still attempting to make my son's day feel as special as he is while trying to entertain his guests. I don't know which family did but they stole my son's toys, decorations and gifts while we were distracted with games and activities!!!! I was extremely upset when I noticed this and my son was heartbroken. He had collectible action figures worth hundreds of dollars he'd had since he was 3 years old. The service here was terrible and not well managed or secured. I feel this was absolutely unacceptable that I paid for my son's items to be stolen by people who shouldn't have been there in the first place. I will never again reserve or attend any events at this park!!!! It's ashame I spent money to rent this shelter when other people didn't have to. It's more shameful that a 7 year old's birthday was ruined by horrible park management and thieving intruders who not only stole from a child but left huge messes for us to clean up. They should have refunded my money but instead they tell me there's nothing they can do. Lesson learned! Garfield Park is a place poorly run and they will never get my or my family and friend's...

Still a nice, clean park surprisingly. Police patrol it regularly like clockwork ensuring no illegal activities occur. Even being so close to Fountain Square the city has kept up on maintenance of park and pool. Pool stays packed on moderately hot to hot weekend days and is a lot less busy on week days. Pool is clean and staff seems to do a good job at adding chemicals as needed. Most pools you notice a real strong chlorine smell and think its from too much clorine or even that its supposed to smell this way.. Well, Pool smell is due, not to chlorine, but to chloramines, chemical compounds that build up in pool water when it is IMPROPERLY TREATED. Its a result from the combination of two ingredients: (a) chlorine disinfectants and (b) perspiration, oils and urine that enter pools on the bodies of swimmers. That being said, remember that when visiting a public pool as there are many illnesses tou can catch. Some of which can, at times with the right combination of health events, be fatal. When a pool is treated correctly it will not have a strong chlorine smell. This is due to the proper ph blance and "free chlorine". Note that the more chlorine in a pool, the lower the ph of the water is. When the ph drops too low the water actually becomes acidic! Heres a brief summary of free chlorine and its chemical compounds to help you better understand. Free chlorine refers to both hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and the hypochlorite (OCl-) ion or bleach, and is commonly added to water systems for disinfection. ... Chloramines are also known as combined chlorine. Total chlorine is the sum of free chlorine and combined chlorine. This pool generally does not have this issue unless its been at max capacity for more than 3...

Garfield park, in my opinion, is the best park in the city. There are tons of old growth trees and sidewalks to walk. We went for two reasons. 1. The fall colors and 2. The squirrels. I love nature and love to watch the squirrels run around and chase each other. One time we went with in the shell peanuts as the squirrels are used to people and some folks feed them. It was an early morning and the park was mostly deserted. We started peppering out the peanuts and the squirrels started to appear. At one point we counted 18 squirrels surrounding me which could be troublesome to many but not to me. I thought it was amazing! Some were waiting to be handed their peanut. I was thrilled and it was an experience after many years that I have never forgotten. I haven't gotten to have that experience again, but that doesn't stop me from trying! If you love nature, love a peaceful surrounding and if you enjoy squirrels, Garfield Park is for you! I...

A beautiful and spacious park with a conservatory (small entrance fee of just $2/person), Sunken Garden (no entrance fee) - with lighted water fountains that constantly change colors in the evening (pictures taken outside of gate) playground/open play areas, staffed swimming area (during pool hours, of course!). A Pokémon Go hot spot with multiple Poké stops (3 of them within a block just at Shelby Street entrance - the Garfield Park branch library is one of them) and a couple gyms. Multiple entrances and parking lots/areas make it very accessible to practically everyone. As with just about any park, weather/seasons affect hours and availability of certain services.

Great park for a lovely stroll through very well kept grounds. The Sunken Gardens are a perfect place for enjoying the weather, beautiful landscaping, or even bringing a picnic lunch. Outside of the gardens, there are nice walking parks that go throughout the park. And while you are there, make sure to check out the conservatory as well ($2/person, currently requires getting tickets in advance). It offers amazing diversity of flowers, plants, and trees and is well worth the price of admission.
