With over 125 courses to play in the Coachella Valley, it takes a while to get to play many of them. I had always heard good things about the course at Eagle Falls and was on my list to play. When a friend called me this past week that he had a tee time and asked if I wanted to join him and his buds, of course I said yes.
I never understood that a course that bills itself as a resort course with a hotel and casino next door never built a permanent pro shop. Opened in 2007 it still operates out of a 2-wide trailer. Strange don’t you think? I had worked at a top notch golf resort here in the valley when I retired and saw first hand what goes into making a resort a great golfing experience wanting the guest to return in the future. Eagle Falls does not even come close to these standards.
The layout of the course and design were fine and similar to other resort courses I have played. Were I have a big problem is the maintenance of the standard items that affect a guests total experience.
It starts with the conditions of the golf carts. They were dirty with elements of the course still hanging on the carts and behind the seats. The floors were dirty. They looked like they had not been washed since the last rain. And in the desert this does not happen too often. The ball washer had NO water in them. Luckily I also carry my own portable club washer whenever I play another course. The towels given were dingy and rough. I would use those to wash my car, not my face. We did receive our allotment of two bottles of water, but no ice, only water to keep them semi-cool. Again, I usually bring my own small cooler with water and ice. A refreshing relief.
I observed that many of the sand traps did not have adequate amount of sand to play a proper shot from them. Members of my group were always complaining of this fact. Though I only made one trap, this was completely bare of enough sand to play a shot. The grass rims around the traps were not maintained and had uneven long grass and weeds growing around it.
All of the greens were very bumpy. It looked like they had been punched maybe a month ago, but the ball would just bounce and not hold the putting line.
Finely, the carts came with course GPS. Now the resort courses I have played, the GPS is enabled as soon as you hit the first tee. This did not happen and it wasn’t until the second hole that I finally pushed the correct button that the GPS started to work.
I was truly disappointed with the experience, and for the $45 summer rate Eagle Falls was charging, certainly did not feel the rate equaled the experience. What a...
Read moreMy friends and I played eagle falls on Sunday 2/9. Our tee time was at 8:30am but when we got there (7:50am) the starter pretty much forced us to go out at 8:20am to accommodate a group of 8 that wanted to play together. We figured it would be better being in front of 8 than behind the 8 so we obliged without any pushback.
The Marshall came up to us on the 2nd hole and told us to keep up with the group in front of us who were probably a full hole ahead. We said we will play fast and pick up the pace if we were getting caught up by the group behind us, who was not on the tee box when we were on the fairway . He found us again on hole 4 and was more stern with us keeping up pace. Again, the group behind us were not keeping pace with us, but he was really watching us like a hawk at this point. He was in the rough area on hole 5 when we pulled up to the 5th tee box. After we teed off, I went up to him and gave him a bit of a tongue lashing for hovering over us. He told me he was just doing his job and was told by the pro-shop that we were playing too slow. I told him to not worry about what was in front of us, but what was behind us, which was the group of 8 and that we finished 4 holes in under 4 hours which is well above their 4.5 hour round pace. We never saw him again after that. I take pride in my pace of play and hate slow play, so I felt we were unfairly singled out. Whether it was him or the pro shop, I was pretty disappointed in their customer service.
The course was perfect condition and would play there again. Pro shop and Marshall on front nine needs to be better....
Read morethis was the second course we played on our golf trip at Palm Springs. we played PGA west Pete Dye Dunes course the day before. we paid $125 which include carts and unlimited range balls.
