I’ve been to this Hoag ER on sand canyon twice. The 1st time was with my baby and the docs, nurses were awesome. The front desk people was passable. So one star each for the people in the back (doc and nurse)
The 2nd time was bad. For the Tl; dr : front desk staff (tech and nurse) lack professional/medical knowledge. Hoag does NOT have a doc doing triage like teaching hospitals to better prioritize emergent cases.
Long story: l was told by another doc to go to the ER for imaging b/c of extreme swelling at my hands. This happened before at a Northern CA hospital and i waited 30 mins in the ER. This time I had a severe allergic reaction and was feeling numb. Was not passing out yet so they told me to wait 3-4 hrs. And the nurse even told me “dont try passing out”. No, i was not going to fake a pass out. This was really presumptuous and disrespectful to suggest i would fake another emergency on top of the one i was having. The need for imaging, especially at your hand is due to complicated vascularization at the hand. You dont need to be a hand surgeon or a doc but if you are front desk/ triaging. and admittedly while not as serious as a stroke, you should be trained for these key words along the line of “chest pain” and “left sided weakness” so you aren’t so indifferent and operates like a robot to tell people to sit down for 4 hours.
Anyways, the gate keepers- uh, i mean triage folks are bad. Hoag may have wonderful docs but you may never know bc the front desk won’t let you in. Hoag needs to step up and have a doc at triage. The professional quality at triage is...
Read moreDoctor Luden I hope you read this review. When you enter into a career, and you call it your profession. Learn how to effectively communicate to your patients there in need of help with the correct tonality and overall demeanor during stressful situations. Master whatever your craft is. If you cannot effectively communicate your message or your logic to a client who is genuinely trying to understand procedures and ask questions. Then quit your job. You are doing a disservice to patients in need of help. I have had a skin infection for 2 weeks. I went to hoag to be administered IV antibiotics overnight. Next thing I know I am told by this professional, “if I do not go see an orthopedic surgeon I could die the next day” and that IV antibiotics may not take away the small amount of fluid in my ankle joint. She then admitted well yea it could potentially heal the infection but you need to go have a surgeon tap into your ankle and if you don’t want to do that you can leave against medical advice. You literally refused to treat me and admit me for what I literally needed help with. IV antibiotics clears small amounts of trace fluids. Next time you have a client asking questions about the process and the doctors logic just smile. Be happy. Maintain your composure. And answer the questions. Don’t storm out of the room having a temper tantrum like a child and say to a client “you can leave then im done talking to you”. The amount of unprofessionalism you exhibited is astounding. I was absolutely baffled. Throw in the towel. Go back to school. Be better for...
Read moreI have never written a review in my entire life, but I have spent a lot of time reading them written by other people . However I felt such a need to leave a review on this place that I’m writing it here in the emergency room. I was literally in shock due to one of the techs attitude. He was Practically yelling at my poor friend who’s been in sever abdominal pain for the past 6 hours. It felt as if we were in jail and he was a miserable cop who hates his job. He was kicking stuff around and had this disgusted look on his face like he just looked in the mirror at his own reflection. I know I sound mean right now but omg I wanted to jump from my seat and deck him in the face! He was so rude and so clearly making it apparent to us. I am a calm person and I don’t get set off easily but I can see why this place has a horrible rating. Thank goodness he left before I got myself kicked out . It wasn’t just him though. The general attitude from a lot of the staff here is so off putting. They made us both feel like we were an inconvenience and a waste of their time. There have been some lovely people walking around like the insurance lady and one of our nurses. But they are just doing their job as they should be. People like the tech should not be allowed to work like that. This is a very serious field and life and death situations should not be in the hands of someone who clearly has no compassion for the patients here. I will never be back here again and I hope you guys proceed with great caution before you decide...
