We recently had the opportunity to fish with Captain Ron on November 12th. We were flying in from Dallas earlier that week. Then along came unexpected Hurrican Nicole. We were scheduled to fish on Friday Nov 11th, the hurricane was going to be coming through on Thursday the 10th and linger into Friday. When I called to ask what we should do Captain Ron did not hesitate to offer up changing the day to Saturday or Sunday whichever would work best for us. Needless to say, good thing we changed the day. We were unsure of how the fishing was going to be after the storm, but Ron felt good we would get on some fish. Boy did we ever, we caught lots of reds and trout it was amazing! Captain Ron knows his stuff, he is fun to fish with, very accommodating, a great conversationalist, an all-out great guy. He took us to several places we caught fish at each location. His knowledge of the waterways and fishing techniques are impeccable. My hope and goal was to get my girlfriend on a Big Red, she had yet to ever hook into one. She got it on her second cast and it about wore her out bringing it in, it was awesome to watch. I would highly recommend Captain Ron if you are looking for and wanting an awesome fishing experience. He will get you on the fish!
As a side note I have been fishing since I was old enough to hold a pole (55+ yrs). The trip with Captain Ron included and experience of lifetime for me. We were fishing a narrow creek area that had a deep hole and a strong current. I hooked into a what I thought was a very large red. It was pulling very hard and would not come up, then all of sudden my line shot straight up and out of the water came a HUGE tarpon literally right along the side of the boat. It scared all three of us, but it was an awesome sight to experience. Unfortunately, with the thrashing it was doing when it came out of the water it broke me off. But I will never forget that day, I don't think any of us...
Read moreMy first time to Amelia Island and I wanted to plan a fishing trip. After contacting many guides, Captain Ron was the one who gave me the time and answered all my questions prior to booking. Once I booked the trip, his communication with me wonderful. But nothing was as wonderful as the experience that I had while fishing with him. He told me not to expect it to be this way all the time. I booked a full day trip. Literally, I caught reds almost every cast for 4 hours. I know that I caught at least 75 red fish that ranged from 12-28 inches. It was the first time in 45 years of fishing that I seriously was worn out from fishing. What a great guide and also a great person. I will be back....
Read moreRon is the king of "skinny water" fishing! I have fished light tackle with Ron for the last 3 years and believe me, he can get you to waters not many other anglers are fishing. Knowledgeable and hardworking, he often uses his polling platform to sight fish and get you close without spooking them. Unlike some professional guides I have used, if we are not catching fish at a certain location, we are not going to "wait to see if they turn on", we'll get moving! My experience is solely for reds and trout, but I am sure he would be equally good going after sheepshead for a family outing. Book Ron Schurr, you will not be...
