The food was quite delicious. My husband and I want to relish the Southern experience, so we started with gator bites. They were incredibly fresh and piping hot. They were supposed to come with a dip, but we were told they were all out of dip. If I were a restauranteur, I would certainly know how to prepare a dip from scratch to serve my customers. In any event, we ate them without dip, and they were absolutely delectable. I ordered the shrimp and grits and my husband ordered a cup of gumbo and seafood salad sandwich served on a croissant. First, the shrimp and grits were served in a large bowl. They were very flavorful and included bits of bacon, shredded orange cheddar cheese, scallions, and something else that gave it a little crunch. The gumbo had just the right amount of spice. The seafood salad sandwich was spilling out of the croissant. There was so much fresh seafood crammed in there! We ordered sides of broccoli, green beans and fries. The broccoli and green beans were overcooked and lukewarm. The fries were your average fries. I had a glass of wine and my husband had a beer. We asked to sit outside on the deck overlooking St. John's River. We were told we would have a wait. I said that would be fine. We waited about 15 minutes for an outside table. Some of the tables, including ours, had large cracks in the plastic not only on the surface of the table but also where we sat. If a table was not bussed right away, the gulls descended. What a spectacular view! It was well worth the wait. There was all kinds of activity on the river, including small craft, jet skis, fishermen, and enormous container ships. Did we feel rushed to leave. They even had live music, and the duo was very talented and played popular country songs. I took one star away from atmosphere because when you parked in front of the restaurant, the smell is actually a stench. It is coming from two nearby trash dumpsters that are overflowing. The smell is enough to make you want to get back in your car and leave. Once you are in the restaurant and even outside on the porch, you cannot smell the trash at all.

I came from Ga to have 5 o’clock dinner with friends here. The atmosphere was nice people were friendly. I got a water and there was stuff floating in it. Ok got a new water. My Appetizer took absolutely forever, our server was overwhelmed/annoyed you can tell she kept forgetting things, so I brushed it off. Finally asked about my appetizer bacon wrapped shrimp and not sure what happen but it had to be reordered or made etc. finally got to order my meal and it came out about 6:45 was good other than I cannot eat tomatoes and it came on my beans and rice, nowhere did it say that it came on it (no big deal I just didn’t eat it). Skip to checking out and paying my bill. Tip is included at the end on the check ok cool so I write on my receipt x amount is in cash for the tip and x amount goes on my card so split payment, I told this to her 3 times the third time she said she knew and that’s what she did…. BUT of course not she paid the full thing on my card and kept the cash. And over drafted my card (because Vystar issues with transfers). Now it’s not a big deal but she told me she understood (and I literally had it written on the check….) she told me she knew it was split payment, I am upset that she got tipped double for poor service… I thought she did it correctly but after I left and was finally able to get on Vystar account I seen where it charged the whole amount. This is my first and only time I will spend my money there. I personally do not recommend going *there were plenty of workers there so it’s not like they were understaffed*

We went there for our fourth time, it had been several years since we were there. We traveled back to the US on May 14, ajd wanted to drink by and eat some good seafood and we were let down alot. First, the bathrooms were filthy and stunk like urine, Second, the whole place was filthy in many ways, our table was dirty and sticky, the workers were dirty and looked filthy and overworked, the whole place just smelled like a dirty, greasy and moldy old diner. Third, the food was just bad!! It took a long time for our food to arrive, and when it did, we were all very unhappy. The beans and rice were absolutely tasteless! My whole fish plate was cold! No joke. The fish tasted like microwaved frozen fish from a freezer! No taste, greasy and soggy. My salad was a let down and with the whole place stinking and our food so bad, we all just ate half of it and gave up. We all got the $20 special, ended up paying $130 for it all and they even charged us extra $2 per side dish! And they said the side dishes were included with the $20 special!! The waitress never came by and then hung around to stair at me to intimidate us to leave a tip when we payed! In the past this place was so nice and the fish so fresh, I think they have another manager, because it has completely changed for the worse and the ONLY think that was delicious was the hush puppies, they were good. A total waist of $130.00 No plan to return… beware before you go there, it’s not the same….

Where to even begin? This place used to be a great spot two years ago! We went tonight, Friday July 25th with our family from out of state. I tried to call earlier to make a reservation and no one answered the phone. No biggie, we went around 6:15 and waited 2 minutes before the hostess even looked up to acknowledge us. We were not greeted cheerfully, it felt more like we were making her job more stressful just by being there. A waitress asked one of them to please help her and get a pink lemonade to go to and the hostess shot back at the waitress that they were getting slammed. To which the waitress replied, “yes, that’s why I’m asking ONE of you to help me!” It was incredibly awkward having that argument happen in front of us and the other waiting patrons. Finally, we were told it’d be a 25 minute wait and went back to our vehicles to wait. Around 35 minutes later and still not getting a message that the table was ready, I went inside just to ask for an update. I immediately noticed the lady who had come in after us was just being seated with her party of 10. I decided to bite my tongue and asked for an update. I was told, “we’re still waiting for tables.” Around 10 minutes later we got the message that our table was ready. We were a bit irritated since the wait time was double what we were told. We were promptly seated outside in Steve’s section and waited about 5 minutes before he came by asking for our drink order. The drink orders were a mix of Sprite and Coke and Root Beer, and all of them were FLAT. I was super bummed so I asked if he could use another soda machine. Steve had no problem at all with that request and got me a soda from the newer outside bar and guess what? FLAT. I was starting to get extremely annoyed and just ordered a pina colada since I needed something for my food. When the food did arrive my order was wrong. Please please please….if you have hamburgers on the menu and CHARGE $2 for a SLICE of cheese, for the love of god PUT THE CHEESE ON THE BURGER. Mine came with no cheese and when I told them of the mistake they brought me a plate with a cold slice of cheese on it. I was so disappointed in the entire outing and while Steve was nice, he never apologized for the flat sodas or mistaken order. Never offered to have it taken off our check. Needless to say, it was the worst experience we’ve had here. And what happened to being able to order hush puppies as...

I approached the hostess stand and was asked "are you going to eat here?" I was rather shocked by the question as we wouldn't be there if that wasn't our plan. We waited about 15 minutes for our party of four to be seated despite an abundance of empty tables. Once seated, it took another 10 minutes for our waitress to get our drink order. We received our drinks which consisted of 3 waters and an iced tea, then we ordered our appetizer and entree's at the same time as we weren't sure how long it would take our waitress to get back to us. After placing our food order, we waited 20 minutes to receive our dozen raw oysters. I had requested a side of jalapeno's with the oysters and they did not come when they were brought out, more about that later. After receiving the oysters, we waited another 40 or so minutes to receive our entree's, which consisted of a shrimp po boy, chicken alfredo, snow crab legs, and Seafood Portofino. Everything we received was room temperature or cold. When our waitress was taking an order at another table, my wife flagged her down to let her know about the temperature of the food. She said that they were really backed up, but she would put in a new order. We declined to wait for new food as we were hungry and had waited long enough, so we just ate what we had. About 5 minutes later she brought out new po boy and chicken alfredo meals. By this time, we were almost done with what we already received and again told her we didn't want them. She also brought out the jalapeno's I requested with our oyster appetizer. We went ahead and asked for the check which she promptly brought and advised us that she didn't charge us for the two new entree's and we could just take them home with us. She also told us she didn't charge us for the drinks (3 waters and an iced tea or the jalapeno's) but didn't take any off for the slow service or cold food since we had the two new meals. We probably should have asked for the manager, but the waitress should also have offered to let us speak to the manager. I'm not actually sure if one was even on-site as we didn't see anyone that appeared to act in that capacity. In my experience, normally the manager interacts with guests and asks how everything is. This was our first visit to Jacksonville and to this restaurant, Jacksonville is amazing......The Sandollar Restaurant, not so much, we will not be...
