I’ve been checking out all the plant stores. The staff is not only friendly and helpful but knowledgeable. There are a variety of plants, a lot smaller ones which is cool. The owner has plants that are harder to find especially at big box stores. The pricing is reasonable for an independent owned shop and comparable to other plant shops. My only concern is that my new purchase came with fungus gnats, and they can be hard to get rid of (no one wants this problem). Aside from that, this place could be one of the best shops in town.
Edit: I am unsure of how to reply to you. So, I’m updating my review. First, I must say that I’m highly impressed with your response. I encountered a pest issue with another plant shop before. When I posted my review, the owner was flippant, and I was accused of being a fake account given my username.
I bought multiple plants and still have some of the receipts as well as my credit card statement. I only found evidence of gnats in one plant, but I have quarantined all of the items I purchased just to be on the safe side. I do understand that, sometimes, it’s not the seller’s fault but their suppliers. However, I’m glad that it’s not an ongoing issue for Sunnyside, and I appreciate that you’re invested in mitigating the issue.
One of the main reasons I chose independent owned shops is because stores such as Home Depot or Menard’s seem to always have pests, and it ruined my growing collection. So, I’m glad I caught this fast and I’m trying to rectify the issue because I do love my purchase.
While I do prefer anonymity, I may reach out to you via email. Again, thank you for your willingness to help and being receptive of my feedback. It means a lot. I traveled a long distance to visit your shop, and the service is definitely worth the trip. I noted that you’re open again on Wednesday. So, I might even stop by to buy another plant I spotted...

Read morein my evolution from someone who killed a cactus (a cactus!) in less than a month (a month!) to a full-blown, too-many-houseplants-to-count plant parent, Sunnyside has been an invaluable resource for amazing quality plants, customized and tailored education & recommendations, and overall good vibes. Ann, the owner (we love a woman-owned local business 😍), her husband Tim, and their crew have an encyclopedic knowledge of fine plant care details down to different types of soil & top dressings, and the harry-potter-spell-sounding botanic names of all the plants in the shop roll off their tongues — but they never judge me for saying things like “this leafy boy” or “mr spikes in the corner over there.” the energy of the shop is helpful and nonjudgemental, making it a welcome space for everyone from botanic experts to someone buying their very-first plant baby. their focus on education & making customized recommendations for your plant style, environment, and budget is bar none — and definitely has contributed to me blossoming into the confident plant mom I am today. Sunnyside also has one of the most unique & diverse assortment of plants, from leafy tropicals to hard-to-find cactus and succulents; and to this day, when people walk into my home that is full of houseplants, the show-stoppers that everyone comments on are plants that I purchased here. 11/10, will happily...
