They had a social event on Saturday and had half off admission, so my mother and my 2 and 1/2-year-old son went. My mother and I learned a lot, and my son had a really good time. The staff was really nice and friendly. My son enjoyed sitting on the fire truck that they allow people to sit on. It has a siren that is hand crank that you were able to turn. My son got a kick out of it! As an amature radio operator, I was fascinated by some of the vintage radios they had on display from over the years. As someone who spends a lot of time designing fire alarm and mass notification systems I was also fascinated by some of the antique fire alarm systems they had on display. One thing that I learned that I did not know was where the term fire plug came from. I won't spool the surprise, come take a look...

This was such a great place to take my kids (ages 3, 4, 6 and 7) who are VERY into firefighting/first responders right now. The man who did the tour is a retired history teacher and loves firefighting. He did a great job!

They have a staged bedroom area that the kids go in and the guide talks about what to do in case of a fire. They also have a kitchen area with appliances that “smoke” and he talks about fire safety in the kitchen.

Then he walks you around and explains the evolution of fire fighting carts/carriages/trucks! The kids got to sit in one and wind the siren.

They have a lot of interesting pieces of fire equipment history and I learned a lot but it was also accessible and engaging for the kids.

5/5 stars,...

What a great discovery. I was in Louisville hanging out when I found this museum in close-by jeffersonville, Indiana. The apparatus on display are so well preserved it’s incredible, especially since some of the pieces date back to 1680. They even have an engine built in my home city of Pawtucket, RI, where our department went full time in 1874. The history in this place is entrancing, especially if you’re in the fire service. And the volunteers that provide the tour are retired firefighters that are passionate and knowledgeable. they even have great interactive displays for the kids so they can see how fires start, and what to do if they occur. Such a great place. Can’t...

Small but very amazing collection. Our tour guide was thorough and passionate about the displays and how they each were part of the story of firefighting as it has evolved from bucket brigades to more modern inventions of pumper wagons to engines. Another volunteer there showed us additional pieces and he himself was an early EMT in the 1970's during the time the show Emergency was on TV and had stories of visiting the set, station house, and hospital portrayed. 5*/5 highly recommend!70's
