Beautiful river views, water falls, historical canals and whitewater rafting, so much to do in the Lehigh Gorge State Park. D&L Trail (Lehigh Gorge Trail) is a 24.4 mile lightly trafficked point-to-point trail located near Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania that features forests, mountains and river valley. This trail cuts through 4,500 acres of dramatic river gorge parkland along the Lehigh River on a former canal and railroad route. The bike shuttle offers the opportunity to do all 25 miles of the trail in a day. Reservations are needed ahead of time. There was white water rafting competition the weekend we reached the Rockport entrance. This section of the trail was almost completely shaded, flat graded, and traffic was moderate. The Luke’s Falls are located in the Carbon County section. An easy short walk on the trail from the Rockport entrance. The upper gorge is the prettier section but the lower part does have a scenic view while crossing a bridge over the river which was peaceful and gorgeous stop. Glen Onoko Falls and Lehigh Gorge Overlook Trail bridge is just 2.6 miles from Jim Thorpe. It ends in the parking lot adjacent to the train station in Jim Thorpe. The bike riding or hiking is at your own pace so there is no rush to complete in a certain time frame that makes up for a very enjoyable afternoon!

Lehigh Gorge State Park, accessible from the charming town of Jim Thorpe, is a haven of natural beauty and adventure. As you enter, you’re greeted by the majestic Lehigh River, which carves its way through steep, forested cliffs, creating a picturesque gorge. The park’s trails, perfect for hiking and biking, wind through lush greenery and offer stunning views of waterfalls and rock formations. The sound of rushing water and the sight of vibrant foliage make it a serene escape. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful walk or an exhilarating whitewater rafting experience, Lehigh Gorge State Park promises an unforgettable connection with nature.

Very well maintained beautiful scenic trail. We rode from Jim Thorpe D&L trail entrance to White Haven (25 miles one way) and back (total 50 miles): small incline up and small decline easy ride back down. You can ride right along side of river, several small falls to see on the trail, and many picnic tables available to take a break. Would strongly recommend to bring snacks and plenty of water: once you enter the trail, there is no place to grab a snack or drink. White Heaven has a bike rental shop and small grocery store to purchase snack and water but if you start from the bottom, it is 25 miles up distance.

I recently visited Lehigh Gorge State Park, and I was thoroughly impressed by the stunning natural beauty and the exceptional amenities this park offers. It has quickly become one of my favorite outdoor destinations. The park’s scenery is absolutely breathtaking. The lush forests, majestic waterfalls, and the scenic Lehigh River create a picturesque landscape that is perfect for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike. The well-maintained trails provide various options for hiking, biking, and even just leisurely walks, catering to all levels of outdoor enthusiasts. One of the highlights of my visit was the Glen Onoko Falls Trail. The trail was challenging but incredibly rewarding, with spectacular views at every turn. The cascading waterfalls were a sight to behold and made for a perfect photo opportunity. The park is exceptionally well-maintained, with clean facilities and ample signage to guide visitors. I was particularly impressed by the efforts to preserve the natural environment while providing convenient amenities for visitors, such as picnic areas and restrooms.

The staff and park rangers were friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to provide information and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Their dedication to maintaining the park and assisting visitors is truly commendable.

Additionally, the park offers various recreational activities such as fishing, whitewater rafting, and wildlife watching, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy. The availability of these activities enhances the overall experience and makes each visit unique and memorable.

Thank you, Lehigh Gorge State Park, for providing such a wonderful, well-maintained, and inviting space for outdoor adventures.
