Party of 2 cash only, We went here because other locations in the area seemed to shut down early, and they had a variety of vegatarian options for my wife.
Drinks: I ordered a traditional long island Ice Tea and my wife the fresh squeezed orange juice. She felt the orange juice had good flavor but the body was a little watered down, limited pulp. I loved my LIT. But it was a true dive bar, where else.
Appetizers: We ended up with 3, needless to say they were all good. For the fresh chips and salsa, the chips were excellent with a nice crunch, however the salsa felt jarred and lacked the texture of a fresh Pico de Gallo..
We also ordered the vegan potstickers, my wife didn't care for them as much as I did, she felt they were overly salty, and the contents were heavy with soy sauce. I, on the other hand, I liked them. They went well with my drink, and I appreciated the peas and carrots along with the asian inspired chili sauce.
By some fortunes, we ended up with the purogies, they were excellent, houseade not boxed and the sour cream was good but they needed a sauce. If I were to actually order them, I would try there: Pierogies Ă la Kevy
Mains: It was taco Wednesday? So we bolth got tacos.my wife 2 of the vegetable, and for me 2 beef. I also added a entree of the crab cakes. There was some confusion of the vegetable dijor, needless to say, it came with broccoli and mashed potatoes.
Again my wife didn't really care for the tacos, as she doesn't like squash in general and butternut can be strong. I actually liked the beef, I felt it was under seasoned and could use some shredded cheese "absent" however the flavors worked. The crab cakes were also.good, however shaped for there crab cake sandwich. No filler and used real crab meat. But needed some tarter sauce which I didn't get till the end. It was refreshing and house made.
Overall: If this had been anyplace else, I would probably have something to say but I don't. It was honest home cooked food with an excellent bar. The waiter eyeballed quality long islands and everything there was designed to go with a pint.
I would go.back in a minute The Union Publick House is what it says it is, a fine house of food and drink, no pretentious attached.
Thank you for a...
Read moreI stumbled upon this dive bar with my boyfriend while visiting Jim Thorpe. To my delight I was very pleasantly surprised. Not much to look at inside, but the friendly staff especially Bailey, Tiffany, and Gary along with their delicious food which is reasonably priced make this place a gem. They offer a nice selection of menu choices and have daily specials along with a special Octoberfest Menu, and a Cocktail Special Menu. Union Publick House offers Vegan and Gluten free options too. Their prices are reasonable because THIS PLACE ONLY ACCEPTS CASH.) We sat at the bar and we started with a signature cocktail. They made a great Blueberry, Lavender Cocktail. When you squeeze lemon in it, it turned purple. UPH has a great selection of Draft Beers, IPAâs, Wheats and Hefes and Stouts and Porters. For starters I chose their Deviled Eggs 3 Ways. These deviled eggs are rich and creamy and melt in your mouth. Each one was topped with something different. I couldâve eaten a dozen of these. I also ordered their Hot Raspberry Wing to share. These wings were cooked perfectly, and that raspberry sauce was out of this world. On the recommendation of bartender Bailey, for my entree I went with their Boursin Burger which had Boursin Cheese and Roasted Red Peppers and Onions on top with a side of Broccoli and Roasted Peppers and Onions. My Boursin burger was very good. The meat was fresh and cooked perfectly med- rare. My bf chose Smoked Turkey BLT Sandwich. The Turkey was moist and juicy and you could see it was sliced fresh. ( he ate half in the picture.) I spoke to several locals at the bar and they were all so friendly and gave great advice. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The drinks are very good and creative and the food was wonderful, so much so we decided to come back the next night and get a big plateful of their Hot Raspberry Wings. When Iâm in the area again, I wonât hesitate...
Read moreThis is definitely not your average review.
Iâve been coming to UPH for years: itâs a staple in Jim Thorpe, with amazing food, great drinks, and a welcoming, laid-back vibe. It also happens to be the place where I met the love of my life. So when it came time to plan our wedding, we thought⌠why not get married at the bar where it all began?
We asked Kevin (the owner) if we could have our wedding at UPHâsomething they had never done beforeâand to his credit, he was open to the idea, even if he wasnât quite sure what to expect. He and the staff went above and beyond, opening the restaurant early just for us and letting us celebrate in true UPH fashion: with tacos, cocktails, and the relaxed atmosphere we love so much.
The food and drinks were, as always, fantastic. And the day? Absolutely perfect. It was everything we hoped for: fun, personal, and full of joy. Our friends and family had a blast, and we couldn't be more grateful.
UPH isnât just a great local bar: itâs part of our story now. Thank you, Kevin and the whole team, for helping make our wedding...
