Just like pretty much every other goodwill chapter across the nation, Goodwill of Central Iowa now posts almost EVERY SINGLE Video Game or game console to the shopgoodwill.com site. Same with pretty much every pair of shoes in decent condition..
While sure this gets goodwill some pretty hefty profits (its an auction site, just like ebay), it also detracts from their in store sales and traffic.
As someone who is building a large video game collection and pretty much only goes thrifting for video games now a days - it's a shame. I usually didn't just purchase video games when I stopped in store, sure it was the main reason why I visited, but it drew me in to the store like I'm sure it did many others. Same with shoes. Now that they've chosen to clear out their stores of any product that's my main priority, I no longer have a reason to visit.
Gone are the days of $3-5 games and $20-30 game consoles in goodwill. Now you can expect to pay a minimum of $10 for filler / garbage time games and anything worthwhile goes for $30-50 if not more. Consoles can range from $50-$300 depending on the make. Don't even get me started on shoe's, all that's left in their stores are the severely damaged or knock off brands - all the Nike / adidas / Converse/ new balance / hunter / birkenstocks go straight to...
Read moreI can understand the convenience for starting to tag items individually and help speed up the checkout process with the barcodes. However, since you started doing this at your 86 street location, the prices are laughable. It’s pretty much like shopping at a resale store or consignment store now. You have individual shirts and sweatshirts marked as high as $25. I understand when you guys have raised the prices in the past as every business does. This new barcode system with individual pricing is off the charts and I have already seen how slow your store has become with nobody seeming to go there anymore. I hope someone’s analyzing your sales data at this test market store before you decide to roll this out to all your other stores. The barcode is wonderful to increase the speed at the checkout, but it seems like it’s causing a big slow down in your back room for processing. The men’s section was as a bare as I have seen it since this location opened. I went on a late Wednesday afternoon and there was hardly any new clothing with the new color tag on the floor. I was told by one of the clerks, I should just come back on half-price day or Sunday dollar day. Sorry, but on principle alone, I would never step foot in that store again with...
Read moreI left a review a few years ago and can’t find it update. This is the one store in the DSM metro I will absolutely avoid as the Maude employee alters prices each and every single time at her discretion, ie childrens coloring books turn into soft cover books .. utensils turn into kitchen appliances. She even individually counted out a measuring spoons that are a set on a ring and rudely told me Id be paying 1.49 each. I said to keep them. It’s a shame I was unable to buy them. She counted a pair of childrens Pjs as a 2 piece set in addition to to that, she rings items up wrongly and I asked if she could not do that, and ring them up correctly ie; women’s LS are now a kids dress or Men’s jean are now rung up as Women’s jeans and she told me they are all the same price in the end anyway. I was really upset because now if they don’t fit I can not return them and since Jeans are 10$ I told her I don’t want to take the chance that they dont fit so keep them also and of corse she laughed at me. she has done it enough now I am not returning. No other store has ever treated customers like this Waukee has a wonderful employee has been there for 10 plus us years .. (I shop Des Moines metro,Goodwills 2 times a week...
