We love our Mexican and usually have our go to stop, but we decided to venture out on a Saturday evening and try something new. Reviews highly recommended Amigos so that’s where we headed. We were greeted when we walked in and realized the restaurant was full, so we asked to sit at the bar. We were seated and given menus, chips and salsa. There were so many great looking dishes and choices, but we knew right away for drinks we wanted a Michelada with Corona, and a Victoria along with queso and guacamole and two waters. We looked over the menu while we waited for the drinks and dips. It was quite extensive but sorted into categories that helped narrow it down.
The Victoria, water, guacamole and queso was brought almost immediately. The Michelada took a little longer for good reason… it was a work of art and something like I have never seen! I always order Michelada at Mexican restaurants but never had anything like this with so many fixings and such great flavor! I would come back just for this! We orders our entrees after receiving the drinks - the carnitas and the veggie quesadilla. It did not take long for the food to come out but we were enjoying the chips and dips and drinks so time wouldn’t have mattered. The carnitas were served with rice, beans, tortillas, and pico de gallo. The portion was very generous and the pork was tender, juicy and seasoned well. The quesadilla took up the plate it was so big and loaded with peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomato, cheese and had tomato, lettuce & sour cream on the side. Both meals were the best we have had at a Mexican establishment and portions were very very generous… definitely left overs going home for smother meal.
The service was fantastic, the atmosphere is great, and the food and drink, and menu options outstanding. I think we have a new favorite...

The menu offers a fantastic array of authentic Mexican dishes, each one more tempting than the last. But what truly set Amigo Mexican Restaurant apart was the exceptional service. Read moreWe were in Johnston to stay at Stoney Creek for my birthday. We were planning to go to Texas Roadhouse, but the wait was forever. I'm not much of a Mexican food person, but this place was right there, so we tried it.
Since I don't eat spicy food, I normally order something that won't set me on fire, and just eat it. This was the first time I've ever actually enjoyed Mexican food. Everything was amazing. I ordered a seafood chimichanga. The cheese sauce alone was to die for. We were given complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were great. The salsa had some spice, but not so much that I couldn't eat it. The Margurita I ordered was perfect.
The service at this place was amazing. I swear every employee who walked past asked if we needed anything. They had a large party arrive, and while they were getting those orders, even the bartender was out checking on the rest of us. I'm not sure I've ever been treated this well at a resturant before. They made my birthday dinner awesome, and they didn't even know it was my birthday.
I would definitely...
