We were in town for a sporting event and my family always wants sushi for dinner 😂 and I love ramen. When I can find a restaurant with both... Yay for me! There were 5 of us. We were super hungry. We ordered two poke bowls, shrimp Rangoon, a squid salad, miso soup, and two house salads. The poke bowls were loaded with deliciously fresh tuna. It was so good! The shrimp Rangoon were good. I didn't really notice the difference between the shrimp and regular crab Rangoon. The sauce was meh. It was just the typical sweet chili sauce. I didn't get to try the squid salad but my son and husband raved about it. My daughter and I's house salads were really fresh and good. I enjoyed the ginger dressing. It was not the typical peach colored stock ginger dressing. For our entrees my husband, son, and daughter ordered 6 rolls and some sashimi. They said they were all super good. My mother-in-law ordered the chicken fried rice and it was very good. My husband ordered the beef udon he said he really liked the flavor of the beef. I ordered the black garlic tonkatsu Raman. It was okay. It was honestly kind of bland. I didn't get the depth of flavors I enjoy with tonkatsu broth. The pork belly was perfection. My egg was over cooked. There was a lot of noodles. They were cooked well. We would definitely eat there again! Our service was wonderful. Our bill total with...

The Johnston location is usually my favorite location of the wasabi family and is 99% of the time my go to sushi place, however, my last 3 visits have been giant let downs. The first of the three visits, the server didn’t come by much and got part of my order wrong then when I got the check I left cash and the server chased me out of the restaurant to my car to ask me if I wanted the extra cash back… that was obviously her tip. The second vid these visits the server just ignored the the table except to bring water once, take my order, drop off food, and bring the check. The most recent visit I watched the server come from the back and pick up straws that were on the floor and put them back into the basket on the bar, she took my order and when she came back 5 minutes after I got my food to bring me my check, I had planned on getting desert but she didn’t want to do anything but get me out of there and she also never refilled my water during my visit. I don’t like leaving bad reviews but I haven’t seen the regular manager during any of these visits to be able to let him know. The quality of service from the Johnston Wasabi has drastically declined in the last 6 months and if things done get better in my next visit or two I will have to unfortunately find a new place to get my...

It was our first time visiting. There was no wait at 7:45 on a Friday night which was nice. It took a bit before our waiter brought water but it looked busy and it went pretty smoothly after that. We ordered 3 sushi rolls and a miso soup which was all good. The sushi rolls were a different texture than I'm used to. Almost like they were ground/shredded fish instead of whole pieces. I'll have to pay more attention at my other favorite places to see if that's common. I'm also anxious to see their sashimi and nigiri to see how those are served. Other than that the sushi was fresh and flavorful. Execution was also appreciated. For example, we ordered three rolls that arrived well organized on a single plate instead of three individual plates that tend to clutter up the table. A touch that made all my other regular sushi places look a little worse. Location is close to our home in Johnston and prices were very good. We'll definitely be back and I recommend it if you're...

Tonight I had the pleasure of eating at @Wasabi Johnston in Johnston, Iowa. Excellent ambiance and a very neat and tidy vibe. The service was fantastic and the food far exceeded my expectations. I will admit, I was a little Leary of sushi in the Midwest, being from the West Coast, but it was phenomenal! Pictured: Grilled Shishito Peppers, Pan Fried Pork Dumplings, Eel Sashimi, Eel Avocado Roll, Angry Dragon Roll, and the Crunchy Crab Roll. If you are in the Des Moines Area, check them out. HIGHLY recommend!! #food #foodreview #sushi #wasabi #foodie

We ate at the new Wasabi location in Urbandale and had a great meal. The restaurant itself was very nicely decorated with a beautiful fish mural covering one entire wall. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful. We ordered the shrimp rangoon which were amazing, and a squid salad as an appetizer. The squid was fresh and delicious, and paired well with the cucumber in the salad. For our meal, we shared several pieces of sushi. The tomato was the best that I've had in Des Moines. The "Angry Dragon" and the "Rock and Roll" were standouts, but all of the rolls and nigiri were very fresh and tasty. Overall, the atmosphere was nice, the service was good, the food was excellent, and the prices were in line with any other establishment of this quality. We'll definitely go back.
