Decided to take a little trip up to Johnston Iowa to visit a friend, and on my way home I discovered this little cafe off of the highway. Im not to savvy with Cafes, but I'm a man who does enjoy good food. Plus, Cozy Cafe just has a nice bite to the ear to it. So I decided to stop in and I did enjoy myself! First, the place did have an old school cafe feel, and a very nice waitress who got me seated quickly and served me quickly as well. She also kept making sure the food was good, I'll get to that, and overall made me feel welcome. Btw, her name, I believe, was Maiga. Now for the food. I ordered three things to try. First was a appetizer order of Mozzarella Sticks. The sticks themselves was good, but I wasn't a big fan of the sauce they served with it. I want to say it was marinara sauce but it didn't taste like it. The onion rings, although a bit messy, was crispy and delicious. Then there was the staple Cozy Burger, which was a bbq burger with onion rings and bacon, and this was good. Not the greatest burger, but good tasting and filled the hole, which at the end of the day is always what you eat out for. Oh, the burger also came with kettle chips, which if you don't know what those are, they are basically potatoes fried in a kettle til they are like chips. Those was nice but they could have done with a bit more salt and pepper. Overall, I did enjoy myself and I enjoyed the food. And for the spread, it netted me $26.36. Not bad for what I ordered. If I come back some time, I'll be sure to try one of their pies! So what are you waiting for? Go eat!

We came to Cozy Cafe on a Sunday morning, looking to treat ourselves and take a break from cooking. We've always liked this spot and often recommend it to others, so it was the natural choice. Unfortunately, this visit left us disappointed and questioning if things have changed for the worse. I always order the same dish—the Eggs Benedict—so I'm very familiar with how it's usually prepared. This time, the eggs came out fried instead of poached, which immediately threw me off. When I brought it up to the waitress, rather than being understanding, she insisted I was mistaken. I actually had to show her that the eggs were indeed fried, which felt unnecessarily uncomfortable. It took about 15 minutes to get the corrected eggs, and when they arrived, the eggs were poached but overly wet. The serving of ham was shockingly small, more like a thin slice of deli meat, oddly disproportionate. The hollandaise sauce tasted like it came from a packet, was lumpy, and arrived completely cold. Most frustrating of all—there was no apology or acknowledgment of the issues with the dish or the delay. I wasn’t looking for a free meal, but a small gesture like adjusting the bill or even a kind word would have gone a long way. Instead, I was made to feel like I was the problem for speaking up. I understand that mistakes happen. How a restaurant handles them is what sets good service apart. If this is the new standard, you may be losing a longtime customer.

Well this used to be one of my favorites but as of today I have concerns. Place was decently busy, not overwhelming, but waitresses were literally running around so much they couldn't place a cup of syrup onto the table, instead it was slid across the table without us even seeing the waitress. There's no syrup bottles on the table, had to keep asking for it. The servers had long sleeves with thumb covers on, handling multiple plates, this is a health code violation. We didn't see anyone washing their hands. The cup of apple sauce was $3 and was 2 bites- ridiculous, it had apple sauce all over the bottom of the cup. While we were in the middle of our meal a different server interrupted us to fill condiments instead of waiting until we left- again bad etiquette and manners. Disappointed and I'm wondering where management was to oversee the inexperienced staff. The food quality wasn't worth what we paid.

I chose the Cozy Cafe today for my birthday lunch. It seemed to work out because my doctor’s appt was just across the street at 1:45. We thought we would get our order taken in a couple minutes, then be done eating by 1:45. Wrong!

The waitress was rude and neglected to take our order right away. We sat down at 12:58 to look at the menu. My mom and I were deciding what we wanted. The server brought us water. I asked if she had a slice of lemon. “We don’t have any until the truck comes in,” she said. She seemed rather rude with her answer. I thought that’s weird if you don’t order ahead of time when things are low. When she brought us the water, she should have also taken our order at that time so the fried chicken could start baking. But she went around to the other 3 tables constantly tending to them back-and-forth while we got ignored. I got up at 1:15 to tell the cook through the window that we had been there several minutes and wondered how long the meal would take. Just as I told him we had been there for 18 minutes and no order was taken, the waitress rudely said, “No, you haven’t been here for 18 minutes.” I said I have an appt at 1:45 and our order wasn’t taken. Then she said, “ A fried chicken dinner takes longer than that.” So we left. I thought it was rude she argued about the time we got there. I know , because I looked at my watch when we sat down. Unless she writes the time down of everyone coming in the door, she would have no way of knowing when we arrived. There was only maybe 3 other tables in there. I only saw 1 cook and her. Terrible service over the lunch hour. I got no birthday lunch, a great way to spend my day. I was not rude to her, just asking the cook about the time to cook chicken. I would have possibly ordered something else if she had been more polite and not argued the time. We...

Do NOT waste your time going here. If you value quality service and friendly waitstaff, you’re better off to just keep driving and go to Corner Cafe on 100th street in Urbandale. If a zero star review was possible, this would be it. I can’t rate the food because we didn’t make it that far in our experience. My fiancé and I were excited to finally stop in for breakfast this morning as we had been talking about coming here for a few weeks. From the moment our waitress walked to our table she had a poor attitude that left a sour taste in my mouth. When ordering my food, she asked a question that I didn’t understand, after politely responding to her explaining I did not understand what she was asking me, she responded with the same question, but in the most demeaning tone of voice. I was left speechless. My fiancé assisted in finishing my order as I was so taken back by the way she spoke to me I literally could not speak. After a quick discussion with my Fiance after she left our table, we promptly decided we were not willing to support that kind of behavior, nor a business that supports that level of service. We cancelled our order, and left immediately. We went to Corner Cafe in Urbandale, and had the most rewarding experience instead. If you don’t enjoy serving people, stay out of the service industry. Extremely disappointed in the 10 minute experience we had. This is NOT the experience I remembered having my entire life coming here. Im not sure if ownership or management has changed in the last few years since I have been here, but this is NOT the Cozy Cafe I...
