We are a family of puzzle solvers, and so have done a LOT of escape rooms in a lot of different cities. This was our first time at Ocean State Escape Rooms, and while it's not the easiest place to find (the entrance is at the back of a shopping plaza, not visible from the street), it provided one of the best Escape experiences we've ever had.
My 14yo son and I went together, and chose the Mummy's Curse. The entire room felt very cohesive, with intuitive puzzles that never strayed from the theme. The room itself was beautifully designed with high-quality elements, and special effects woven throughout the experience (I am a huge sucker for "easter egg" - type effects after a puzzle is solved, and this room was packed with them.) Our room master was also extremely attentive, nudging us just enough when needed, or (more often) simply letting us know when a needed key was sitting un-grabbed in an already opened location.
The only downside is that we can't do this room again, but we'll definitely come back to OSER to check out their other rooms soon. HIGHLY...
Read moreAs an escape room enthusiast who has played over 350 games, Nonna's House is an excellently crafted escape room with a great deal of personal flourishes. From the second we entered, we received wonderful customer service, a detail that many companies don't think of as significant but is, in fact, a major factor in room enjoyment. From there, we explored the richly decorated home of Nonna, filled with all sorts of ornaments that you would expect to find in a grandmother's house. The puzzles were all fair, challenging, and rewarding, in addition to providing players the ability to split up and follow different puzzle tracks (a great way to engage larger groups). Overall, Nonna's House is an incredible experience that combines elements of authentic scenery and involved puzzling to wondrous effect. I can't wait to see what this...
Read moreOur 10 year old son attended a birthday party at Ocean State Escape tonight. His only previous experience was participating in virtual escape rooms at school, so he had an absolute blast at the real thing. The owners are so friendly and pleasant to talk to, I find myself totally cheering for their success. This isn't just a chain, folks. It is a real, hands-on, small family business. There are currently two rooms available: Nonna's Kitchen and Mischievous Elves. Our son and his friends solved Nonna's Kitchen with some help from the owners and their daughter. It was a challenge, for sure! The space is freshly painted and the floors are shiny hardwood. The owners have definitely put a lot of love and tons of hard work into this space in Johnston. If you are looking to book a fun birthday party, I highly recommend Ocean...
