A lot of people suggested this hospital was someplace to stay away from, saying the care and attention you receive are sub par. I can honestly say that has NOT been the case for me.
Iâve been here almost a week (itâs Saturday and I came Monday). Initially, I did run into a situation that discouraged me. Although my PCP, from Hopkins, called the ER, and my ER care was extraordinary, and although I was, technically, admitted to the hospital fairly quickly, I was stuck in a recliner, in the ER, waiting for an actual room and bed, for 36hrs!! Yes, thatâs HORRIBLE, and my issue involved back pain due to serious injuries.
That said, I was treated and my other medical needs (outside of getting a room and bed) were addressed, including medication, while I was in ER awaiting room. Proper treatment was continued when I was assigned my room and every accommodation possible was made to address my medical needs. The valet went and got my 2 LARGE âovernight bagsâ from my truck, which I packed in anticipation of hospitalization (he was unable to grab the 3rd because he couldnât get my rear hatch open), instead of having me get it in my state.
While hospitalized, my care was EXCELLENT, and even the Dietary department addressed my culinary needs, providing suitable meal options, and even going out of their way to take my meal orders prior to mealtime to ensure I had what I needed.
Security, at request (when I was informed Iâd be relocated to a physical rehab facility for further treatment), even went back to my truck, crawled through all of the pipes and junk inside of it, and got my 3rd bag, which had my clothing, so I had what I needed for rehab!! And as if that wasnât enough, security informed me that when I was released from rehab, if authorized by them to drive, they will get my truck for me or transport me to it!! Wow!!! Instead of me trying to find a way to get back to the hospital, theyâd bring it to me or pick me up from Rehab and take me to my truck??? That just blows my mind!
What else can one ask for from a hospital? Ignore the naysayers! This hospital, though not perfect, TRIES!! Thatâs more than I can say about the...
Read moreJuly 28th 2025-early AM I went into Conamaugh Hospital sick with possible Lymes Disease and ask to be tested. I was put in a room in the ER and noticed someone else's urine sample in a container on the side table thinking that was gross. The polite student Dr. Looked at the marks on me, and ordered blood tests .The lab girl proceeded to draw the blood with the tourniquet still tightly on. I told her I was fromuliar with drawing blood and the tourniquet should be removed once drawing the blood. She refused and left it on and then stated opps I blew the line. And was sent to the waiting room. After awhile the girl came back with some results of the bloodwork saying that the Lyme Results had to be sent away and it would be awhile until they were back. Then she proceeded to tell me results of a urinalysis! I stopped her and said if you took that urinalysis from the room and put it on my chart- that was NOT my urine! You didn't ask for any from me!! How disgusting â I ask for the Dr. Immediately! He returned and I told him everything. He seemed shocked as well and apologize. The hospital was NOT even busy that morning and there was alot of laughing and carrying on by the nurses + other staff the whole time I was there. Very unprofessional. The floors were overly dusty and pretzels and litter was obviously there from days before. I ask to be discharged as I was sick and very upset with their unprofessional service! I followed up with my own Doctor who took it from there with treatmed as he quickly retrieved the results. I will not return to that hospital and was advised to go to Windber or UPMC Somerset for much better care. I called my insurance to see if they were infact billed and the Were!! I was advised to file a grievance with multiple departments as I'm doing. People Be Aware of your treatments at this hospital and document any Wrong doing! Please Don't just...
Read moreMy family member who had to be here after having abdomen surgery, was left to lay for 15 minutes while her call bell went off. She had pressed it to go to the restroom. Then a nursing student came in to ask what she needed and when she said she had to use the restroom, the student said ok sheâs get my family memberâs main nurse to take her. 45 minutes later, we were still waiting on the nurse or anyone to come in.
This was merely the tip of the iceberg for our issues. If we asked for anything or needed assistance in anyway, we had to wait an average of 30 minutes and had to ask more than twice before she was even acknowledged. Always we were given the excuse that they were busy, which I would have understood, however, the whole time, we could see and hear the nurses/nursing students sitting at the nurses station chatting about their credits they were working on, what they were having for lunch, where they were planning on transferring too, etc. They would refuse to plug in the suction tube for her stomach because âI have issues with it.â and when they would finally get someone to do so, which her surgeon said was absolutely necessary and shouldnât be unplugged unless needing to be moved away from the pump, they would hook it up improperly. This would cause all the gunk in the tube to drain out everywhere, including on her, then the nurses would be annoyed, saying this setup was ridiculous. Then they would refuse to touch the tube or clean up the mess, leaving her to sit while it continued to leak everywhere. I would sooner take the chances of dying on way to Pittsburgh from taking the extra hour or so, to have at least decent care than to be treated like trash as they do to their patients in this joke of a hospital. You know itâs sad when even the nurses call the hospital the DDC Hospital: Duke Doesnât...
