Green Light Music and Video — Attraction in Kalamazoo

Where to begin when reviewing a place as special as this? I guess I'll start with my reason for visiting on my latest trip. As the father of three, I have felt the need to instill an appreciation for music in them. We certainly have differences of opinion when it comes to music. I respect that everyone has different tastes, but in order to appreciate anyone's music that you can't hear live, you have to listen to that music on a stereo. A bluetooth speaker just will not, and cannot, give you the sound quality, both in depth and nuance, that a component system gives. To that end, I have collected a system for each of them and need to replace a turn table that was damaged in a move. They had a very nice vintage model, complete with box, that had been completely gone through, at a reasonable price, with a 30 day warranty....on a used item. It was very cool, and the owner was awesome to work with.

As to the store, it was great to see so much vinyl, along with every other media you would expect in a record store. The store is super clean, well lit, and well organized. New and used vinyl are priced fairly and easy to find. This isn't like stepping back in time as much as it is finding a new favorite...

They only get 1 or 2 copies of new releases and once they're out, they don't reorder, an occurrence not exclusive to Green Light. At that point most people would rather purchase online versus special order. If stores want you to purchase their stuff, stock it. And the used vinyl leaves little to be desired too. I've been turned away on more than one occasion cause the guy who looks at used stuff wasn't there. Also, 5:00 closing doesn't cut it for folks that work til 5:00. Covid isn't a hoax but it's not as terrifying as people make it out to be. I rate my reviews truthfully and accordingly based on personal experience be it cheerful or otherwise. They get 2 stars for being well organized with lots of eye catching wall candy and most of the employees are friendly. But hey they're at least as good...

This is the best spot for records. The selection in the store is huge and also very diverse. Even those with extensive collections of there own would be able to come here and find plenty of things they haven’t seen anywhere else. I was putting together a gift for my husband and wanted to get records from concerts that we’ve been to together over the years. I found quite a few of them, but not all. I explained this to a friendly gentleman at the counter when I was checking out and he explained that they can order records to be shipped in to the store. He seemed genuinely excited when he found each one that I was looking for and I was able to get everything I wanted for less than it would’ve cost me to order them on Amazon. Great selection, great prices, and awesome...
