Update: The manager was kind enough to reach out to me after reading this review to offer a resolution. We gotta commend the gesture. My fiance and I visited Condado again and all the food was heated properly, the dip was tasty, and the drinks as good as before. The waiter didn't bum rush us out, and we enjoyed our time - they earned an additional star ⭐
Came in around 530 on a Friday and the place was in full swing. Great environment, very colorful with high ceilings. The high top tables has hooks underneath for coats which was a nice touch.
Our waitress was lovely and the drink she recommended was exactly as described. Some pomegranate thing with sugary salt on the rim. It tasted like a mid-range dive bar drink, which is fine in my opinion, no shade.
I ordered the Plain Jane which is a chicken fajita type taco, it was great! Great flavor and I would definitely order it again. The queso dip with ground beef in it was tasty too. I also liked the Mexican corn and would order that again as well.
The braised and confused taco on the other hand, left me... Confused. It was bone cold. The rice and the meat, the two elements that should be hot or warm at the very least, both straight out of the fridge cold. I didn't bother reporting it then and there because I had already seen reviews about cold tacos at this place and already expected the possibility.
My other problem is a bit of a nit-pick as someone who has worked in the industry, but hopefully management hears me out. Instead of having your servers blast cleaner all over the table to clean it, and therefore into the air while people are dining 1 foot away, maybe just teach them to spray inside the rag and then wipe down the table.
That way, your guests don't have to huff in chemical scent from the table next to them while they're mid-bite. It's a very off-putting and easily avoidable experience.
We got our food very quickly after ordering - less than 10 minutes. And that's great! But then the waitress was bum rushing us out at the end sadly. I was in the middle of eating my dip and my drink was still 2/3 full when she came over to hound us about the check. I felt second hand embarrassment.
I get it, it's a busy night and maybe she didn't realize how long we'd sat there. But when we left we felt like we barely had time to talk at all between the food arriving in 2 seconds, eating, and then the check being bum rushed out before we were even done eating.
The bill for 4 tacos, 1 full dip, 1 half size dip, and 2 alcoholic drinks came out to $60 including tip.
Needless to say, I can't say the experience was worth that price. La Familia has way better, authentic, incredible tacos in comparison and is still the best in town, BUT Condado has admittedly better ambiance and I don't think Familia offers mixed drinks.
I might give this place another chance...
Read moreMy family and I truly tried to give Condado Kalamazoo a chance after being so impressed by the Grand Rapids location. My wife has a gluten and dairy allergy so it is difficult for us to find places to eat out at, if at all. The first time was a to-go order that we should have checked before leaving the restaurant. We didn’t realize until we got home that the kitchen staff didn’t follow the Dairy/Gluten Free instructions for her meal in the order. After the manager did her best to compensate us for our troubles, which was really impressive at the time, we had faith in the Condado name again. They claim to pride themselves on being able to accommodate for gluten and dairy allergies so we wanted to try them again. Dining in was the choice this time around because after 13 years of kitchen experience, I know the to-go order portions tend to be smaller than in house orders. (Compare the Skywalker nachos if you don’t believe me.) My wife immediately notified our server of her allergies which he thanked her for. She ordered a couple plain janes on hard corn shells without cheese. This should of been an achievable option for someone with her allergies, or so we thought. She is now currently in the bathroom, getting sick from cross contamination once again. I’m outraged that a restaurant that claims to accommodate people with allergies so well has such a difficult time upholding those claims. Not to mention having to send her tacos back because they made them with soft corn tortillas. I know cooking for a living can be stressful but if the kitchen you work for claims to care about customers allergies, then you need to uphold and honor that. That’s just lazy cooking and I recommend people with gluten sensitivity or allergies stay away from Condado Kalamazoo. Unless you want to spend the night getting sick...
Read moreUpdate we were here a second time on 2/5/2023 around 3 ish the experience was good for the most part. Our server was attentive at times and seemed lost and disinterested other times. The young lady at the check in table seemed like she didn't want to be there and wasn't the most friendliest hostess I've ever had. I got the build your own taco, the portions were very small and skimpy, more soft shell than anything for the price I paid for each of them. My girlfriend got the taco bowel and she said it was good and her portion was enough she had leftovers. Score 3 out of 5 for today.
We came as a huge group on 12/18/2022 around 5 ish. We were seated very quickly, got the drink orders in pretty quickly, took a bit to get them to us. We got a meal orders in and got our food orders after awhile ( took two trips i believe ) to get everyone's food out as we had 8 adults. Our server was attentive and interactive with our group. The atmosphere was cool and the concept is spot on and good for the Kalamazoo area. They have seating on the main floor and upstairs and a patio during warmer months. It does seem to be a bit pricey but if the food and drinks are good and how we ordered it then I don't have a problem paying more. I know this place is knew and still working out the kinks and there was some issues while we were there but when they get those worked out I believe this place will be a...
